Electronic cigarettes are now known by many names such as “e-cigs,” “e-hookahs,” “mods,” “vapes,” or “vape pens,” even mimicking the shape of cigarettes, cigars, pens, USB drives, and many other familiar items. Although scientific studies on long-term harm are ongoing, initial evidence has pointed to serious risks to the respiratory, cardiovascular, and oral systems, as well as an increased risk of cancer.

Furthermore, new-generation tobacco products also pose a potential risk of social ills, especially drug use and addiction, directly affecting young people.

In implementing Resolution No. 173/2024/QH15 of the National Assembly on prohibiting the production, trading, import, storage, transportation, and use of e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products from 2025, Thai Nguyen has proactively implemented many comprehensive measures.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Loi, Deputy Head of the Market Management Department of Thai Nguyen province, said: Following the directives of the Government, the National Steering Committee 389, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the Provincial People's Committee, the unit has strengthened measures to strictly manage the market and raise public awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco and new products.

Inspections have revealed that no organizations or individuals are found to be producing e-cigarettes or heated tobacco products in Thai Nguyen province. Violations mainly involve online sales via social media platforms such as Facebook, Zalo, and TikTok, targeting young people. In 2024 and 2025, the Thai Nguyen Market Management Department detected and handled 9 cases related to e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products; these primarily involved smuggled goods or goods of unknown origin.

In the coming period, to effectively control the market, the Thai Nguyen Market Management Department will continue to implement comprehensive monitoring measures such as: inspecting business establishments, reviewing online sales websites, verifying seller information, and coordinating with the police, health authorities, youth organizations, and other relevant agencies to conduct inspections and handle violations. In particular, it will strengthen propaganda efforts, especially in schools, to raise community awareness and create a "front" for preventing and combating the harmful effects of new tobacco products, aiming towards a smoke-free community.
