The Thai Nguyen Provincial Women's Union currently has 92 commune and ward-level Women's Unions; 2 affiliated units and 2 member organizations, with over 379,000 members.

The province has nearly 550,000 women aged 18 and above, accounting for approximately 50.8% of the workforce. This is a large force with a profound influence on family and community life, especially in shaping healthy, smoke-free lifestyles.

Over the years, along with the effective implementation of patriotic emulation movements, women's unions at all levels in the province have intensified propaganda work on preventing and combating the harmful effects of tobacco through many rich and flexible forms. This content has been closely integrated into the campaign "Building a family with 5 no's and 3 clean's," the movement to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas, and activities to care for the health of women and children.

At the grassroots level, the role of women's organizations and their staff is clearly demonstrated. Ms. Sam Thi Thuy, Vice Chairwoman of the Fatherland Front Committee and Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Na Ri commune, Thai Nguyen province, said: "We recognize that preventing and combating the harmful effects of tobacco is not only the responsibility of the health sector but also the responsibility of the entire community. Women play the role of 'keeping the flame' in the family, so when women understand correctly and persistently campaign, the results are very clear."

Through thousands of meetings, thematic communication sessions, and skills training, women members have been equipped with knowledge about the harmful effects of tobacco on health, especially the impact of passive smoking on pregnant women, children, and the elderly.

Many women have proactively propagated and encouraged their husbands, children, and relatives not to smoke at home or in public places, contributing to the formation of a civilized lifestyle.

The movement to create smoke-free environments is not limited to individual families; it has spread strongly throughout the community through models spearheaded by women, such as: "Smoke-Free Families," "Smoke-Free Women's Associations," and "Clean Homes - Beautiful Alleys - Safe for Women and Children." These models have contributed to positive changes in people's awareness and behavior, gradually reducing smoking in public places.

In the healthcare sector, female medical staff in Thai Nguyen province consistently uphold the tradition of "doctors as compassionate mothers," setting an example in implementing smoke-free healthcare facilities. Through consultations, examinations, and treatments, they actively educate patients and their families about the harmful effects of tobacco, encouraging them to quit smoking to protect their own health and the community.

Furthermore, young women have demonstrated a pioneering and creative spirit, actively participating in communication campaigns to prevent and combat the harmful effects of tobacco on digital platforms and social media. Their concise messages, vivid visuals, and engaging promotional videos have contributed significantly to spreading a healthy, smoke-free lifestyle, especially among young people.

Elderly women are playing the role of "Elderly role models," persistently encouraging their children and grandchildren to quit smoking and build cultured families. Women from ethnic minorities have also actively disseminated information in villages and residential areas, contributing to bringing legal regulations on preventing and combating the harmful effects of tobacco closer to people in remote areas.

Ms. Le Thi Hien, Standing Vice Chairwoman of the Fatherland Front Committee and Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Van Lang commune, shared: "The most important thing is to make members and people understand that building a smoke-free environment is protecting their own health and the health of their loved ones. When women agree and persistently campaign, sustainable change can be achieved."

It can be affirmed that, with the active and responsible participation of all levels of the Women's Union and women of all walks of life, the movement to build a smoke-free environment in the province has been spreading widely, contributing to improving the quality of life, building happy families, and a civilized society.

In the coming period, the Thai Nguyen Provincial Women's Union will continue to innovate the content and form of its propaganda; promote the core role of women in the family and community; and effectively integrate the work of preventing and combating the harmful effects of tobacco with the Union's major movements and campaigns. This will contribute to building a safe, smoke-free living environment – for the health of the community and the sustainable development of the province.
