Services not commensurate with tourism potential
According to data released by the General Statistics Office on May 6, in the first four months of 2025, the number of international visitors to Vietnam is estimated at about 7.67 million, an increase of 23.8% over the same period last year.
This year, the number of international tourists mainly comes from markets such as Korea, China, India, Philippines, Russia, etc. Direct flights and visa incentives for foreign visitors are some of the plus points that help Vietnam attract foreign tourists. In particular, in the near future, Vietnam will have many potential inbound (international) markets such as tourists from Middle Eastern countries with high incomes, willing to pay for luxury tours. However, currently, the services of some provinces and localities still do not meet the tourism needs of tourists.
Most recently, the Inspectorate of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang City has just announced the conclusion of an inspection related to compliance with legal regulations in the business of tourist accommodation services in the area. Through the inspection, the authorities discovered a number of hotels displaying incorrect star ratings on online booking platforms. Specifically, four hotels in Da Nang were asked to contact platforms such as Agoda and Booking to remove the star images next to the hotel name because the star rating has not been recognized by the competent authority or has expired.
In fact, although destinations in Vietnam have improved significantly over the years, there are still limitations that need to be overcome, such as hotel quality matching the advertised information, tour guides needing to have good foreign language and historical knowledge, or travel agencies needing to ensure that tourists have the most satisfying journey.
Comprehensive inspection of travel and hotel businesses
In 2025, the tourism industry will witness a strong recovery worldwide. Vietnamese and international tourists will have more choices. From the beginning of the summer tourist season, it can be seen that there has been a decline in international visitors to our country. In addition, domestic tourists are tending to choose new and more attractive destinations.
To attract tourists, create a good impression on customers, along with beautiful natural resources, new tourism products, good communication work, investment in building tourism infrastructure and improving service quality needs to be focused on by all levels, sectors and localities.
In fact, although Vietnam's tourism industry has achieved many successes, it still faces challenges such as uneven service quality, false advertising, and violations of the law in travel and accommodation businesses, affecting the experience of tourists and the image of national tourism. Recently, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued a plan to launch a large-scale inspection in 2025, focusing on international travel businesses, tourist accommodation establishments, tourist areas, tourist attractions, tour guides and tourism training establishments nationwide.
According to the plan, the inspection subjects include the Department of Tourism, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of provinces and centrally-run cities, international travel businesses, tourist areas, tourist attractions, tour guides in practice, training facilities that issue professional certificates and star-rated tourist accommodation establishments, paying special attention to places that advertise false quality, list incorrect star ratings or self-award stars without recognition.
