Loving cultural and historical relics the young way

(PLVN) - In the hustle and bustle of modern society, when digital technology and social networks take up most of young people's time, showing affection for cultural and historical relics seems to have become strange. However, in reality, young Vietnamese people not only "check-in" at famous landmarks but also learn, protect and create ways to connect with heritage in their own style.

Connecting relics with modern life

Loving monuments is not only an emotion, but also a concrete action. In Vietnam, in many localities, there are many youth groups that organize days to clean monuments, plant trees, display small exhibitions, or participate in restoration and maintenance projects under the guidance of experts.

In Da Nang , in the first half of the year, with the desire to demonstrate the role of youth in participating in preserving, promoting and disseminating historical and cultural values in the area, the Standing Committee of the An Hai Dong Ward Youth Union (previously merged name) established a Youth Volunteer Team to propagate and introduce historical relics and cultural works in the district.

The team was formed with 15 members, all of whom are Youth Union officials in the ward. The team members are responsible for coordinating propaganda and introducing key national and local cultural relics and works in direct and online forms on social platforms.

The first place the team visited was the historical site of Thoai Ngoc Hau Temple. This is not only an ideal place to educate the tradition of patriotism for the present and future generations but also a sightseeing and research destination for tourists when coming to Da Nang.

The Youth Volunteer Team will promote and introduce historical relics and cultural works in the ward to help people learn about historical and cultural relics in a more vivid, attractive, easy-to-understand and informative way, thereby demonstrating the role and responsibility of youth in contributing to the preservation and maintenance of traditional cultural and historical values.

In particular, young people have now connected relics with modern art and creativity. Some groups organize painting workshops, make short films, and write historical diaries right at the relics, helping to make historical content come alive. They also organize heritage photography competitions with different themes such as “Marks of Time” or “Storytelling Architecture”, creating opportunities for young people to experience, create, and share their feelings about the relics.

These experiential activities also help promote sustainable tourism , because when young people deeply love relics, they will inspire their friends, relatives and the community to protect relics. This proves that loving relics is a journey of spreading culture, not only preserving past values but also contributing to building the spiritual life of young people.

In recent years, the Center for Cultural and Scientific Activities of the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam (Hanoi) has always strived to connect the young generation with the thousand-year-old cultural values of the nation through many creative activities, especially drawing competitions and artworks inspired by tradition. Typical in the series of Heritage Convergence events (part of the Thang Long - Hanoi Festival 2025), the exhibition "Thanh Tan Hanoi" opening on November 2 has realized that effort.

The event was organized in collaboration with the Toi Ve Club and Nhau Studio, bringing 90 paintings by professional and amateur artists. Each work reflects the spirit of "thanh" - clear, pure and "tan" - new, creative, about Hanoi. Therefore, each painting is a vivid slice of the Capital: both familiar and surprising; both nostalgic and full of life - where art blends with the breath of modern life of Hanoians.

Or at the creative space Lich Chich (Hanoi), founded by three young girls Hoang Ly, Tu Uyen and Thu Ngan, it has become a bridge to guide young people to traditional folk cultural values. The girls said that the group's goal is to create a cultural playground, not only for viewing, but also for direct experience. By cooperating with units such as "New Experience Hanoi", they have turned their dream into reality, helping young people have the opportunity to touch the heritage, thereby nurturing their love for traditional values.

For example, when young people come to Linh Chic's creative space, they can participate in many activities such as learning about traditional Vietnamese culture, making handicrafts such as paper kites... This is a destination that attracts both domestic and foreign tourists to come and learn.

Combining technology with monument conservation

Gia Lai province currently has many long-standing cultural and historical relics. This is a potential for the province to promote tourism development. Wards and communes in Gia Lai province have applied digital technology to spread the values of the relics. For example, "Proud of Tuy Phuoc Bac - A beauty every week" is a program being implemented by Tuy Phuoc Bac Commune Youth Union (Gia Lai province), aiming to promote cultural and historical traditions associated with local tourism development.

Sharing with the media, Ms. Phan Thi Yen, Secretary of Tuy Phuoc Bac Commune Youth Union, said that the commune has many national relics, scenic spots, and traditional baking professions that have become the local "culinary brand". Since the beginning of August 2025, the Commune Youth Union Executive Committee has come up with the idea of creating video clips to promote the potential and strengths of the locality.

Each video clip produced by the Commune Union is 4 to 8 minutes long and features many relics such as Ba Pagoda - Nuoc Man Port, Banh It Tower... To have a complete product, the production team spends 1-2 days filming, then 1 more day editing and recording commentary. All products are posted regularly every Sunday on the Tuy Phuoc Bac Union Facebook page.

Or it is the story of 3D printed ice cream sticks bearing images of relics and scenic spots in Hanoi that attract the attention of both locals and tourists. This is a 6-year dedicated project of Mr. Ly Hai Hoang Tan (from Hue city) with the desire to spread heritage values closer to the public.

He spent many years coming up with ideas and learning how to make ice cream abroad. By 2023, he had launched the first 7 3D printed ice cream models of Hanoi landmarks: Turtle Tower, Opera House, Khue Van Cac, Dong Xuan Market, One Pillar Pagoda, Quan Chuong Gate, and the Great Cathedral. Now, there are more: Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Cua Bac Citadel, Long Bien Bridge, and Hang Dau booth.

Currently, Mr. Tan is continuing to develop ice cream lines simulating new landmarks and historical relics such as The Huc Bridge, Hoi An Ancient Town and a new collection for Ho Chi Minh City including: Independence Palace, Ben Thanh Market, Notre Dame Cathedral... His ice cream bars not only attract tourists and young people to support, but also become a beautiful image on social networking platforms, spreading the cultural values of Vietnam.

Recently, the story of Ms. Nguyen Thuy Bao Tran - Secretary of the Youth Union of Binh Loi Trung Ward (HCMC), spreading cultural and historical values to young people is an important task in the work of the Association and the youth movement at the unit. From her concerns about propaganda work and spreading models and solutions related to culture for young people, recently, she and the local Association officials have implemented many initiatives to apply digital transformation in education and propaganda work.

She and her team of Association officials have built a “Digital map of historical and cultural relics, “red addresses” in Binh Thanh district”, integrating data of more than 10 historical sites. Appearing on the “Binh Thanh Youth” page with a bilingual English-Vietnamese version, the map helps young people, residents and tourists easily look up and visit online.

In fact, these meaningful actions not only “breathe life” into the relics, but also help visitors, especially young people, to easily absorb the spirit of history and culture in an interesting and emotional way. Instead of just presenting basic information, young people can apply technology to spread the beauty of historical relics. When combined with effective communication, the relics will no longer be “dry” addresses, but will become attractive cultural meeting places, contributing to educating Vietnamese youth about history and culture in a sustainable and profound way.
