Increase income from vocational training classes

In recent years, along with the effective implementation of social security policies, vocational training for ethnic minority workers in Thai Nguyen has had many positive changes. Vocational classes opened right in the hamlets help people gain skills, find stable jobs, increase income and escape poverty sustainably. This result is thanks to the participation of the political system, the efforts of training institutions and the progressive spirit of learners.

In Ao Lac hamlet (Phu Luong commune), since the beginning of November 2025, nearly 30 students who are ethnic minority workers have participated in a basic food processing technique class organized by the Phu Luong Center for Vocational Education - Continuing Education (GDNN-GDTX).

People are taught new techniques and guided to practice each dish according to a systematic process. Cooking is familiar, but through the class, students are trained in the skills of calculating ingredients, measuring spices, and ensuring food hygiene and safety. This is an important foundation for developing local food services.

Mr. Vuong Van Quy, San Chay ethnic group, owner of a small restaurant, shared: Although I have been running the restaurant for a long time, I only learned how to prepare food properly after taking the class. The dishes are more delicious and customers are more satisfied.

Teacher Tran Thi Huyen said that the students are diligent, quick learners and enthusiastic about practice, creating motivation for the center to maintain and expand vocational classes.

In Dong Muon hamlet (Quang Son commune), the green tea and black tea processing class attracts many working-age women. Instead of just learning from experience, women are instructed on how to roast, knead, ferment and preserve tea according to scientific processes, combined with machines. Thanks to that, the products have beautiful colors, retain natural aroma and sell for higher prices.

Ms. Lam Thi Tam in Ba Dinh hamlet said: With new machines and knowledge, tea making is much more efficient, the quality is good so traders pay higher prices.

According to Mr. Tran Dinh Tung, a teacher at Dong Hy Vocational Education and Continuing Education Center, being properly educated helps people change their production mindset and know how to increase the value of their products.

Representatives of vocational training institutions said that about 40% of the course time is spent on practice using the “hands-on” method. Thanks to that, students have a firm grasp of skills and can work immediately after the course. Statistics show that more than 80% of students find new jobs or improve their old jobs, making a practical contribution to local economic development.

In Plan No. 112/2025 on implementing the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas, Thai Nguyen aims to deploy 8 vocational training models with about 3,000 trainees. This is an important resource for workers to create jobs for themselves or be recruited into enterprises and cooperatives.

Mr. Hoang Van Tho, Deputy Director of Phu Luong Vocational Education and Continuing Education Center, said: Many students after completing vocational training have opened their own services at home, participated in local economic models and have more stable livelihoods.

Mr. Ha Huy Thuy, Deputy Director of Dong Hy Vocational Training Center, commented: Professions such as tea processing, household electricity, food processing, chicken care and treatment are suitable for real-life conditions, making it easy for people to apply.

The effectiveness of vocational training is not only in the number of classes, students or implemented models, but is most clearly demonstrated through changes in the life of the highlands. When having a profession and a job, many families have risen out of poverty and boldly participated in new economic models. This is an important foundation for Thai Nguyen to achieve the goal of sustainable poverty reduction and socio-economic development in ethnic minority areas in the next period.
