The boarding house project for Yen Thuan Ethnic Minority Boarding Primary School will be completed in early June 2024.
We arrived in Yen Thuan commune (Ham Yen district) when two construction projects—school buildings, classrooms, and boarding houses—for Yen Thuan Ethnic Boarding Primary School and Yen Thuan Ethnic Boarding Secondary School were underway. Despite the rain, the workers were diligently working.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Vuong, Team Leader of the construction team, THN Thang Long Joint Stock Company ( Hanoi ), which is constructing Yen Thuan Ethnic Boarding Primary School, said: Construction started in August 2023 with a value of over 8 billion VND, and the project is expected to be completed and handed over in early June 2024 in preparation for the new school year. Over the past period, the company has consistently arranged and assigned 20-25 workers to the construction site to ensure the set progress.
According to Mr. Hoang Van Nghia, the school principal, the school has an average of about 90 boarding students each year from villages far from the commune center. Recently, the school has been utilizing old classrooms and rooms to provide living quarters and a kitchen for the students.
Due to limited facilities and cramped living conditions, the school can only accommodate about 50% of its boarding students. In the 2023-2024 school year alone, the school had 119 boarding students. Of these, 53 students resided in the boarding facility, while the rest had to rent accommodation or stay with relatives. Not only the teachers but also the parents and students eagerly awaited the completion and commissioning of the facility to improve the quality of education and care for boarding students.
Before the Lunar New Year 2024, many "main artery" roads invested in by the Yen Son District People's Committee completed phase 1, handed over the land, and opened to traffic, such as the newly opened concrete road from Ngoi Nghin village, Dao Vien commune, connecting with Khau Lang village, Kien Thiet commune (Yen Son); and the newly opened transport road from Dong Pha village to Lang Ap village, Kien Thiet commune. The transport road project from Dong Pha village to Lang Ap village belongs to Sub-project 1, Project 9 of the National Target Program for socio -economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas.

The road connecting Ngoi Nghin village, Dao Vien commune, with Khau Lang village, Kien Thiet commune (Yen Son district) is being prepared for concrete paving.
Currently, the construction unit is accelerating the progress of building drainage ditches to complete the concrete road surface within the first six months of 2024. According to Mr. Le The Hung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Kien Thiet commune, the project is approximately 2.5 km long with an investment of over 6 billion VND in phase 1; phase 2 has an investment of over 2 billion VND. Along with the supervision of the District People's Committee, the Commune People's Committee is also actively coordinating with relevant agencies and units to proactively monitor the construction progress and quality of the project.
The implementation of essential infrastructure projects under Projects 1, 4, 5, and 9 has been carried out effectively by local authorities, with disbursement rates exceeding 80%. These projects have contributed to transforming the face of rural and mountainous areas, creating favorable conditions for people in trade, production development, and improving their quality of life.
According to the Department of Planning and Investment, in 2024, the entire province will disburse nearly 518 billion VND under the National Target Program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas. Of this amount, nearly 300 essential infrastructure projects will be started, carried over from 2023, or are being prepared for investment.
That's a considerable amount of work. The Provincial People's Committee is strengthening its direction to all levels and sectors to actively participate and handle tasks within their functions, duties, and powers quickly and effectively. The People's Committees of the districts will continue to enhance their responsibility, strive to complete assigned tasks, and gradually improve their management and implementation capabilities. Construction units must overcome all difficulties, braving the sun and rain to implement projects, ensuring quality, technical standards, aesthetics, and project timelines.
