Nearly 5 years of implementing the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development for Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas for the 2021-2025 period in Yen Chau district has gradually changed the face of villages and improved the lives of ethnic minorities.

Ai 1 village, Phieng Khoai commune is home to 150 households of Thai and Mong ethnic groups. Previously, the old cultural house was small and dilapidated, not meeting the needs of Party cell activities, meetings or organizing cultural and community activities of the people. From the capital source of the national target program, at the end of 2024, Ai 1 village invested in building a new cultural house with an area of ​​200 m², with a total investment of 1.5 billion VND.

Mr. Vi Van Toan, Party Cell Secretary, Head of Ai 1 Village, shared: The State supported the construction of a new cultural house, and the people were happy. Everyone contributed to the project's early completion. The cultural house is spacious and has a spacious sports field, creating favorable conditions for people to have fun, exchange culture, arts, and sports, contributing to preserving the national cultural identity.

Meanwhile, the people of Then Luong village, Chieng Dong commune, shared the joy when the dirt road from National Highway 6 to the village was now solidly concreted. Along with that, the wooden bridge across the stream at the beginning of the village was replaced by a solid bridge. The project to upgrade the road from National Highway 6 to Then Luong village has a total length of nearly 760 m, a road surface width of 3.5 m, and a total investment of 2.9 billion VND from the capital of Program 1719.

Mr. Hoang Van Duc, Then Luong village, Chieng Dong commune, happily said: People actively donated land and crops, and promptly handed over the site to the construction unit. The road was completed, the roadbed was widened to 7m, everyone was excited because traveling, transporting agricultural products, and opening hot mineral spring bathing services were more convenient.

With 14 communes and towns, including 7 communes in area III, 91 disadvantaged villages, ethnic minorities account for nearly 85%, in the period of 2021-2025, the total capital allocated to Yen Chau district to implement Program 1719 is more than 144 billion VND, focusing on investing in the construction of urgent works and projects for people in ethnic minority areas. The district has directed communes with works and projects to strengthen propaganda and mobilize people to agree in implementation; promote the role of the Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations of communes, villages and people in monitoring the progress and quality of works.

Mr. Lo The Thi, Vice Chairman of Yen Chau District People's Committee, said: The district has implemented 10 component projects of the program, up to now, many projects have achieved a high disbursement rate of over 90%, such as: Project 1 on solving the shortage of residential land, housing, production land, and domestic water; Project 2 on planning and arranging stable population in necessary places; Project 4 on investing in essential infrastructure, serving production and life in ethnic minority areas...

After nearly 5 years of implementing Program 1719, Yen Chau district has supported housing for 121 households; invested in the construction of 4 centralized water works; converted occupations for 247 households lacking production land; supported dispersed water for 2,429 households; arranged 2 residential stabilization points; built and maintained 97 rural traffic works, community activity houses, markets, schools, cultural houses and other small-scale works proposed by the community in 11 communes.

In addition, from Program 1719, Yen Chau district allocates capital to support people in sustainable agricultural production according to the value chain. Up to now, nearly 950 ethnic minority households in the communes have been instructed in techniques for caring for crops and livestock; and supported with over 700 tons of fertilizer for production.

The national target program on socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas for the period 2021-2025 has been improving the rural appearance of border and highland communes of the district. The main targets of the program have basically met and exceeded the set plan, such as: The poverty rate of ethnic minority households has decreased by 3-4%/year; 50% of communes in ethnic minority areas have met new rural standards; 100% of communes have concrete or asphalt roads to the commune center; 85% of villages have hardened roads to the center; 100% of rural population uses clean water; 99.8% of households have access to the national grid; 100% of schools and classrooms are solidly built; 100% of villages have cultural houses...

These works effectively serve to gradually improve the material and spiritual life of the people, promoting sustainable socio-economic development in especially disadvantaged communes and villages of Yen Chau district.
