Through the years of arduous and heroic struggle against the enemy, together with the convergence and interweaving of diverse cultural colors, Bac Lieu has left dozens of relics with extremely unique historical, cultural and scientific values. Recently, the province has received the certificate of ranking as a special national relic (QGDB) of Vinh Hung Archaeology (Vinh Hung A commune, Vinh Loi district). With the possession of 2 QGDB relics, Bac Lieu not only contributes to enriching the cultural heritage of the nation but also has the conditions to develop different tourism products.
PRIDE OF BAC LIEU LAND
In the proud and sacred atmosphere of the historic April days, a group of students from Bac Lieu University recently made a journey to the “red address” Cai Chanh Base (Ninh Thanh Loi Commune, Hong Dan District). The trip of about 60 kilometers took the young people to the first QGDB relic of the province, where many evidences of the years of indomitable resistance, the fierce battles of our army and people to gain peace and independence are preserved.
Coming to Cai Chanh Base for the first time, Ho Yen Trinh was excited to visit the thatched houses and artifacts that were once the places where the leaders of the Party, State and Bac Lieu Provincial Party Committee worked and led the revolutionary movement. With the information from the base's tour guide, Yen Trinh was even more moved to learn that this place had endured countless bombs and bullets from the enemy and stories about the deep affection between the army and the people.
The pride of Bac Lieu continued when Vinh Hung Archaeological Site was recognized as a National Monument on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of national reunification. Few people know that the tower-shaped monument belonging to the Oc Eo culture was present in Vinh Hung A land more than 1,000 years ago. Through surveys and excavations of the monument, a large number of artifacts were discovered, helping to identify and affirm the value of this monument in the cultural heritage system of the nation. Notably, there are not many National Monuments in the country that have found up to 5 national treasures like Vinh Hung Archaeological Site.

INCREASE ATTRACTION BY TOURISM
It is undeniable that the two national monuments have great historical, cultural and scientific value. However, if tourism is developed simply as it has been for a long time, meaning only relying on the monuments themselves, it will be very difficult to attract tourists. Many domestic travel companies that were invited by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to conduct surveys all commented that this product is still monotonous, especially lacking in supporting products and services.
Suggesting a direction for tourism development for the Vinh Hung Archaeological National Monument, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Pham Van Thieu suggested: "The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism shall coordinate with relevant units and local authorities to encourage people around the relic to renovate mixed gardens and convert part of the rice production area into tourism. Specifically, let visitors experience riding buffaloes, planting rice seedlings, harvesting rice and then enjoy rustic dishes such as: braised fish sauce, grilled snakehead fish..., and stay overnight in thatched houses and homestays. Because the travel trend of tourists, especially Western tourists, is to experience indigenous culture and immerse themselves in the fresh and peaceful nature of the countryside. Only when there are complementary products can the Vinh Hung Archaeological Monument attract tourists."
To promote the value of the two national monuments of the province, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism said it will call on investors to upgrade the transport infrastructure connecting to the monuments; build tourism service areas; build typical tourism products according to the type of archaeological monuments; connect tours and routes to make this place an attractive destination for visitors from near and far, well meeting the tourism development needs of the province.
