There, children not only improve their knowledge but also enjoy a safe and enjoyable summer.
Attractive playground
On the morning of May 19, the Provincial Library in collaboration with the Pleiku City Youth Union opened the "Summer Book Pages" program in 2025, attracting 400 students in the city to participate. The program has attractive activities including: game show "Learning knowledge through books"; reading books of your choice; visiting the artistic book stacking model; registering for a library card...

After the opening ceremony, every Saturday morning, the program will be held regularly at the Provincial Library with many rich activities such as: introducing good books by topic, telling stories based on books, exploring the library's book collection, trying to be a propagandist to record book introductions; participating in chess, game shows with prizes and fun group games such as ring toss, can toss, and lucky spin.
Ho Nguyen Yen Nhu - Student of class 3/2, Le Quy Don Primary School (Ia Kring ward, Pleiku city) could not hide her joy when she was one of 10 students of the school recognized by the Provincial Library as an active reader, regularly participating in promoting and introducing books.
Nhu said: “I like to go to the library to read fairy tales and books about the animal world . Books help me gain more useful and new knowledge about life around me. That is the reason why I chose the Provincial Library as a regular destination this summer.”
The person who has been involved with the program “Summer Book Pages” since its first days is MC Nguyen Hoang Nam, a staff member of the Provincial Library. He is also a smart and witty “animator” loved by children.
Mr. Nam recalls: In the summer of 2013, seeing that not many children had the opportunity to travel with their families, and there were few attractive playgrounds, he suggested that the unit's leaders organize a program suitable for their age, helping them gain more knowledge, improve life skills, and foster emotional development... The "Summer Book Pages" program was born from that.

The meaningful activity takes place in early June every year, which is also the beginning of the Action Month for Children. Therefore, the staff and officials of the Provincial Library also closely follow the theme of the Action Month each year to promote and equip life skills, and at the same time introduce books on the same topic such as safe play skills, self-protection skills, etc., along with other attractive books.
Talking about the program's appeal, Mr. Nam commented: "Over the years, the number of readers directly participating in the "Summer Book Page" activity at the Provincial Library has increased steadily but not dramatically. However, there is one thing that makes us very happy, which is the increasing interaction and resonance of the children. For example, in the first programs, the children only came to participate in games, receive gifts, and read books, but recently, they have started to give feedback to the program, discuss which books should be introduced, and proactively request to record book introductions."
Mr. Nam shared a memorable memory about the case of 2 students from Nghe An who came to Gia Lai to visit relatives. When they came to the program, they were attracted and participated enthusiastically, no different from the local students, even enthusiastically recording book introductions to broadcast on the Library's social media platforms.
Passionate, creative
Mr. Hoang Nam said: “Every year, we try to do something new to attract children. For example, this year we have added ring tossing, can tossing, lucky spins… so that children can have fun and read books as they like. Parents can also feel secure when bringing their children here.” It is worth mentioning that despite limited operating budget, the unit still sets aside to give young readers trendy reading promotion gifts such as blind bags, comics, school supplies…

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy - Director of the Provincial Library - shared: In addition to the efforts of the staff and civil servants in the unit, the program's influence is also multiplied thanks to the active coordination of schools, communes, wards, Pleiku City Youth Union...
“Summer is not only a time to rest and have fun after a year of hard study, but also an opportunity for children to nurture their souls and expand their knowledge through books. We believe that through this program, children will not only have access to useful books but also have more opportunities to practice life skills, develop creative thinking and form a long-term reading habit - an extremely valuable asset for the future” - the Director of the Provincial Library expressed.
Not only limited to the city, the “Summer Book Pages” program also reaches remote districts and communes in the province through mobile library buses. Thanks to the unit’s dedication, the number of readers coming directly to the program and accessing the Provincial Library’s social networking platforms is increasing.
In 2022, the number of readers participating in the "Summer Book Page" program was 23,409; in 2024, it increased to 36,966. The number of books and newspapers circulated during the summer also increased from 24,709 (in 2022) to 46,066 (in 2024). Recently, the clip introducing the "Summer Book Page" program in 2025 of the Provincial Library alone attracted about 50,000 visits on the platforms.
Talking to reporters, Ms. Ngo Thi Hoa (group 9, Hoa Lu ward, Pleiku city) said that both of her sons, Ngo Duc Gia Long (grade 8) and Ngo Duc Gia Khiem (grade 4), regularly come to the "Summer Book Pages" playground of the Provincial Library.
“The older brother has participated for 5 years, the younger brother for 2 years. It must be said that the staff and officials of the Provincial Library are very creative and dedicated, which is why they are able to “keep” the children from one summer to the next. Thanks to reading a lot, the children’s language and thinking skills are quite good, and their parents are also assured because they have a safe and useful playground,” Ms. Hoa confided.
