After finishing third in the Premier League, manager Erik ten Hag believes Manchester United had a fantastic season and have a great chance of beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final on June 3rd.

In the final match of the Premier League season on May 28th, Man Utd had a terrible start, conceding a header to Kenny Tete in the 19th minute. Six minutes later, Casemiro fouled Tom Cairney in the penalty area, giving Fulham a penalty. From the penalty spot, Aleksandar Mitrovic shot towards the right corner, but goalkeeper David de Gea made the save.

From then on, Man Utd dominated the game and completed the comeback thanks to goals from Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes. The 2-1 result helped Man Utd maintain third place and win their 27th home game in all competitions this season. Thanks to this, Ten Hag equaled the record set by Sir Alex Ferguson in the 2002-2003 season.

After the match, the Manchester United players and coaching staff stayed at Old Trafford to thank the fans. Following De Gea's Golden Glove award, Ten Hag gave a speech thanking the players, staff, and fans, and stating that Manchester United had had an outstanding season.

The Dutch coach urged fans to continue supporting Manchester United in the FA Cup final to complete a double, following their League Cup victory. "There's still a game ahead and I'm sure these players will give their all to beat Man City. With your support, I'm sure Manchester United have a really good chance to bring the trophy back to Old Trafford," Ten Hag said, receiving a positive response from the stands.

At the subsequent press conference, Ten Hag admitted that Man Utd had a "sloppy" start against Fulham but "woke up" thanks to De Gea's penalty save. When asked further about the FA Cup final, the 53-year-old coach praised Man City as currently the strongest club in the world , but said Man Utd still have a chance to win. He cited Man Utd's 2-1 victory over Man City in the Premier League on January 14th as an example to further motivate his players.

Ten Hag also warned that Man Utd must invest heavily in the 2023 summer transfer window to maintain their position in the top four, or even compete for the Premier League title next season. He expressed confidence that transfer plans would not be affected even if Man Utd did not change ownership. British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe and Qatari businessman Sheikh Jassim are currently two potential candidates to take over the reins at Old Trafford from the Glazer family, in a deal that could cost more than $6 billion.

Ten Hag received significant financial support during the 2022 summer transfer window, when Man Utd signed Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, Casemiro, and Antony, setting a record for player spending at $250 million. However, by the mid-season transfer window, the Red Devils were one of five Premier League clubs that did not sign any players, only loaning Jack Butland, Wout Weghorst, and Marcel Sabitzer.

According to Sky Sports , Harry Kane, Declan Rice, and Mason Mount are on the shortlist for the summer transfer window, but Man Utd are unlikely to sign all three players.
