After lunch, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hue - a resident of Phu Thai village - eagerly went into the forest. Many days ago, she had gone to "survey" the locations where medicinal plants often grow.

Today, she walked straight towards the hill that she had marked. She was quite familiar with the shapes and uses of medicinal plants.

"The plant Ba Chung cures stomachache, the tea tree helps with urination, the plant Vang helps clear heat and detoxify the liver... Many people who don't know will think the plants grow wild, but they all have their own very good medicinal effects," Ms. Hue said while cutting leaves to drink.

According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Quang (56 years old, a resident of Phu Thai village), the leaves used to drink on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month must be picked at noon on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month to be effective and have medicinal properties.

"From ancient times until now, our ancestors have passed down that we must pick the leaves to drink at around 12 o'clock. This is a sacred time, so when we pick the leaves, the medicine will be effective, cure the disease and have a fragrant smell. Many people pick the leaves on the 5th from the previous days, but it will not be effective, it will just be a normal drink," Mr. Quang shared.

No one knows when it started, but the old and young people in this village still follow the custom of picking leaves to drink every noon on the 5th.
