The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) said on July 15 that the country aims to grow its tourism industry by at least 7.5% by 2025, aiming to generate revenue of 3,400 billion baht (about 94.16 billion USD).
Thailand will focus on upgrading its tourism supply chain to better cater to high-value tourists, while enhancing sustainability standards and attractive destinations to attract visitors, according to Tourism and Sports Minister Sermsak Pongpanit.
In addition, from July 15, Thailand officially exempted visas for citizens from 93 countries and territories, allowing them to stay for up to 60 days without a visa. In addition, Thailand also allows citizens from 31 other countries and territories to be granted visas at the border.
TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool said that as the visa exemption policy facilitates tourism, TAT will strive to increase the number of seats on existing and new routes, as well as on regular and charter flights, and introduce and promote Thailand’s potential cities and attractions to suit the needs of tourists.
According to Ms. Thapanne, 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of Thailand-China diplomatic relations, and on this occasion, TAT will organize a series of commemorative activities, such as offering special incentives for Chinese tourists, inviting celebrities and influencers from around the world to Thailand.
With 3.58 million visitors, China has become the largest source market for tourists to Thailand since the beginning of the year.
According to data from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Thailand has welcomed more than 18.2 million foreign tourists so far this year, on track to reach its year-end target of 36.7 million visitors.
In 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic, Thailand welcomed a record 39.9 million foreign visitors, earning 1,910 billion baht ($52.89 billion).
Tourism is a major driver of Thailand's economy, contributing about 12% of the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
