At the SEA Games held at home in December, Thailand will send 1,531 athletes to compete and aim to win 241 gold medals in 580 events. If they complete their target, they will almost certainly take the number 1 position in the whole delegation.

Thailand aims to win up to 241 Gold Medals at the 33rd SEA Games.
The current record belongs to Vietnam with 205 Gold Medals at the 31st SEA Games on home soil. Meanwhile, Thailand's best achievement is 183 Gold Medals (2007), Indonesia - 194 (1997), Malaysia - 145 (2017), Singapore - 84 (2015), Philippines - 149 (2019), Myanmar - 84 (2013), Cambodia - 81 (2023), Laos - 33 (2009), Brunei - 4 (1999) and Timor Leste - 2 (2013).
In rowing and canoeing alone, Thailand aims for 18 gold medals, athletics (17), muay Thai, ju-jitsu (10), boxing (9), weightlifting (6). Meanwhile, Thai sepak takraw wants to dominate the entire delegation with 11 gold medals.
As for football, the host team Thailand is determined to win all four gold medals in the 11-a-side football events for men and women, and futsal for men and women. But this is not an easy task, especially in 11-a-side football.
As for women's football, Vietnam has been dominating the SEA Games in many recent tournaments and at the 2025 Southeast Asian Games , coach Mai Duc Chung and his team are also determined to win the Gold Medal.
As for men’s football, with the strong rise of Vietnamese and Indonesian youth football, the SEA Games host team will also find it difficult to win the championship. In the last 3 SEA Games, Vietnam has won 2 times and the remaining time belonged to Indonesia.
Also at the 33rd SEA Games, the two major regional sports delegations, Vietnam and Indonesia, both set high goals. Specifically, Vietnam wants to win 90 to 110 gold medals, and Indonesia at least 80 to 85 gold medals.
Meanwhile, Malaysia has not set a target yet. Singapore has no target, but the swimming team is trying to continue to lead the Games with 20 Gold Medals. The Philippines wants to surpass the 58 Gold Medals of the previous edition to be in the top 5.

U22 Vietnam aims to win the 33rd SEA Games Gold Medal.
In terms of the number of athletes, host country Thailand leads with 1,531. Following are the Philippines with 1,168 athletes, Malaysia (1,166), Indonesia (996), Singapore (930), Vietnam (841). Myanmar and Laos have about 400 athletes, while Timor Leste and Brunei have less than 100. Cambodia, from the initial plan of more than 500, has now reduced to 100 due to security concerns. The 33rd SEA Games has 50 main sports competing for medals in 574 events.
Although the 33rd SEA Games will begin in just a few days, the Organizing Committee's preparations are still facing many difficulties due to prolonged heavy rain.
Due to flooding and concerns for the safety of athletes, the Organizing Committee had to change the competition venues of many sports, including football.
Initially, the U22 Vietnam group matches were scheduled to be held at Tinsulanon Stadium (Songkhla). However, due to heavy rain, the Organizing Committee moved the matches in group B to Bangkok.
Not only that, close to the competition day, Cambodia suddenly announced its withdrawal from 8 competitions, including men's football. Therefore, the Organizing Committee also had to change the competition table and schedule of football.
