Brussels once again became the center of world attention when the Grand Place, a UNESCO-recognized cultural heritage and symbol of the city, put on a splendid new coat of flowers.
According to a VNA correspondent in Belgium, taking place from August 15-18, the "Brussels Flower Carpet" event promises to bring a unique and unforgettable artistic experience.
Since 1971, every two years, residents and visitors have had the opportunity to admire a living work of art created from hundreds of thousands of fresh flowers.
This year, the 23rd edition of the Brussels Carpet marks a milestone as for the first time, dahlias feature prominently in the design. This promises to bring a completely new and unexpected look to this work of art.
The creative idea for this year’s Brussels Flower Carpet comes from young MP Océane Cornille. Inspired by the Art Nouveau style, her work reflects Brussels’ important place in European architectural history.
The harmonious combination of tradition and modernity, art and nature creates a beautiful picture, leaving viewers amazed.
The Brussels Flower Carpet is not only a cultural event of the city itself but also attracts the attention of tourists from all over the world.
Mariam Barry Bah, a tourist from France, told VNA that she and her family chose this time to visit the capital Brussels and this was the first time she saw the flower carpet. She found it very interesting and unique.
Delphine Houba, Deputy Mayor of Brussels in charge of Tourism and Major Events, affirmed: "The flower carpet will be an event not to be missed this summer. Thanks to unique creative ideas, the Grand Place becomes a giant, brilliant painting honoring the image of beautiful Brussels."
Besides its cultural value, the Brussels Flower Carpet also contributes positively to the economic development of the city.
"The Flower Carpet is one of the great moments in the cultural life of Brussels, attracting both Belgians and tourists to the ephemeral beauty of an ancient art modernized under the influence of street art. A unique moment that contributes to the attractiveness and dynamism of the city, along with the flourishing business activities," said Benhur Ergen, Deputy Mayor of Economic Affairs in Brussels.
To create the giant 1,600m2 flower carpet, more than 130 talented hands skillfully arranged 500,000 fresh flowers. Each flower is a small piece, together creating a vivid and colorful work of art, becoming the pride of the city.
Volunteer Kevin Nicolai said he was proud to be involved in this year's flower carpet event.
According to him, keeping hundreds of thousands of flowers fresh throughout the four-day event was a huge challenge, requiring meticulous and constant care. The flowers needed to be kept moist and replaced when they wilted.
The Brussels Flower Carpet is a vivid demonstration of the harmonious combination of art, culture and tourism. This event not only celebrates the beauty of the city but also contributes to boosting the local economy.
With each version, Flower Carpet brings a new surprise, attracting tourists from all over the world to explore and experience./.
