The consultation workshop on the prospect of joining the 2001 UNESCO Convention is a practical action to concretize the content of cooperation between Vietnam and UNESCO for the period 2021 - 2025.
The workshop is a scientific space for leaders, policy makers, experts and scientists to exchange and discuss the role of underwater cultural heritage and the roadmap for Vietnam to join the 2001 UNESCO Convention.

According to the Department of Cultural Heritage (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), identifying the importance of managing and protecting underwater cultural heritage, in recent times, the Department has advised the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to issue under its authority or submit to the Government and the National Assembly a number of legal documents on the field of cultural heritage, which are often directly applied to the management and protection of underwater cultural heritage such as the Law on Cultural Heritage 2001 (amended and supplemented in 2009); Decree No. 86/2005 dated July 8, 2005 of the Government on the management and protection of underwater cultural heritage... In addition, there are a number of current legal documents in the country directly related to the management and protection of underwater cultural heritage.
From the legal documents on underwater heritage protection issued by the State, many localities have conducted research and excavation to preserve and promote the values of these heritages, in which Hoi An stands out with many valuable results continuously obtained from the 90s of the 20th century to the present.
Attending the workshop, according to the Hoi An Cultural Heritage Management and Preservation Center, the collection, preservation and promotion of underwater cultural heritage values have been of interest to Hoi An over the past years. Many collections of artifacts have been displayed and promoted at specialized museums in Hoi An such as the Hoi An Museum of History and Culture and the Museum of Trade Ceramics.
In 2022, the center also set up a thematic gallery with the theme "Chu Dau Pottery - Antiques from the seabed of Cu Lao Cham" to introduce the unique value of Chu Dau pottery to the public, thereby creating more highlights and attractiveness of the museum for visitors.
