Border youth start a business with VAC model

Tong was born into a family in a border commune with difficult economic conditions. Therefore, he always struggled to find a way to help his family change production for a better life. Through self-study, learning from books, newspapers, the internet and participating in training courses, vocational training, and technology transfer in production organized by the district and commune youth unions, in 2021, he decided to renovate 2 hectares of hilly land, planning it into a modern VAC farming and livestock area. Tong dug a pond to raise grass carp, common carp, tilapia, and raised 100 rabbits and commercial poultry.

Earlier this year, Mr. Tong decided to expand the model, investing more than 400 million to build barns and raise 18 fattened cows. His total investment in this model over the past 3 years is about 1 billion VND.

These are all livestock with favorable output and suitable for local natural conditions. The barns were built by him on a large scale, scientifically , focusing on care and disease prevention for the livestock. To proactively provide food sources for the livestock, he also planted several acres of elephant grass. Thanks to that, the livestock grew well and were less susceptible to disease.

Mr. Tong shared: “Following the spirit of innovation and creativity of the youth, I boldly changed the production method towards effectively exploiting local crops and livestock. Instead of producing according to old practices, I applied scientific and technical advances in animal husbandry and cultivation. Thanks to that, my family's economic model has developed in the right direction and initially brought about efficiency. To increase family income, in the near future I will continue to expand the barn to raise pigs for meat.”

Along with livestock farming, Mr. Tong selected high-quality fruit tree varieties that are popular in the market and put them into production with 800 coconut jackfruit trees, 100 durian and lychee trees and 1 hectare of banana trees. During the planting process, Mr. Tong followed the correct technical measures of care, organic fertilizer application and watering, so the plants grew well and were harvested year-round.

Developing a suitable economic model, on average he earns more than 100 million VND per year. In addition to covering his family's living expenses, he continues to use this source to invest in developing the model. Not only actively doing business, Mr. Tong is also an exemplary youth in youth union activities and movements.

This is a typical example in the field of youth economic development in the locality. In the coming time, the Commune Youth Union will promote and replicate his economic model so that young people in the commune can learn and follow. Continue to advise and find preferential loan sources, creating conditions for young people to establish themselves and start a business.
