Thanh Son focuses on investing in economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas.

In the period of 2020-2024, the economy of ethnic minority and mountainous areas of Thanh Son district has had positive changes thanks to the attention of the Party, State and local authorities through national target programs such as Program 135 and the Program on socio-economic development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas in the period of 2021-2030.

According to the district's 2024 Socio -Economic Development Report, the total social investment capital in the district in 2024 will reach 1,787.638 billion VND, of which: State budget investment capital is 387.638 billion VND, investment capital from residential and private sectors reaches 1,400 billion VND. Average income per capita in 2024 will reach 37.4 million VND/year. The district's economic growth rate remains at a fairly good level, averaging about 7.5-8.0%/year in the period 2020-2024. The economic structure will shift in a positive direction, gradually reducing the proportion of agriculture - forestry - fishery and gradually increasing the proportion of industry, construction and services...

Thanh Son district currently has 32 ethnic groups living together, ethnic minorities account for 61.5%; of which the Muong ethnic group accounts for the highest proportion (about 56.79%), followed by the Kinh ethnic group (38.56%) and other ethnic groups such as Dao, Tay, Cao Lan,... With diverse ethnic and cultural characteristics, the district always focuses on effectively implementing policies to develop ethnic minority areas, especially the National Target Program for the period 2021-2025.

In the 2022-2023 period alone, the district has been allocated over 219 billion VND to implement programs to support infrastructure development,education , health care and livelihoods for people in mountainous areas. In recent years, the social situation in ethnic minority and mountainous areas of Thanh Son district has had many positive changes, contributing significantly to the comprehensive development of the region. Thanks to the State's investment through national target programs, especially the Socio-economic Development Program for Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas for the 2021-2030 period, the social infrastructure system such as schools, medical stations, cultural houses and inter-village and inter-commune roads has been significantly improved. The rate of households using national grid electricity will reach over 98%, the rate of households using clean water will reach about 93% by 2024.

The grassroots health network has been strengthened, 100% of communes have health stations and medical staff serving regularly; the rate of people participating in health insurance is over 95%. In the field of education, the rate of school-age children is maintained stable, many highland schools have been invested in solidification, contributing to improving the quality of comprehensive education. The cultural and spiritual life of the people has been gradually improved through activities to preserve and promote the national cultural identity, especially Muong culture.

To continue to better implement the economic development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas in the coming time, the district needs to focus on a number of tasks and solutions such as: Enhancing the leadership role of grassroots Party committees and authorities in economic development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas.

It is necessary to continue to innovate the thinking of economic development in ethnic minority areas in the new practical conditions. Focus on directing the planning and restructuring of economic sectors in accordance with the potential and strengths of each region. Focus on implementing the roadmap to streamline the apparatus, end the operation of district-level administrative units, and merge commune-level units.

Focus resources to resolutely and consistently implement the Project on agricultural and forestry development for the period 2021-2025, identifying key products such as tea, grapefruit, yellow banana, large timber, buffalo, cow, goat farming... as the focus of restructuring the rural economy. Effectively reform administrative procedures, create a favorable environment for businesses and entrepreneurs to invest in production and business in the area. Implement the breakthrough: "Improve the investment and business environment to attract resources for development, focusing on developing infrastructure and industries, fields, and areas with potential advantages". Increase the mobilization of socialized resources and investment resources. Allocate investment resources to concentrated projects and key infrastructure; focus on planning and building infrastructure for industrial clusters and industrial points in the area; develop infrastructure for new urban and residential areas; invest in and upgrade the power system; projects with regional and inter-commune linkages.

Rural traffic is gradually invested and built to create favorable conditions for travel and trade in socio-economic development in the district.

Despite many difficulties, with the efforts of the entire political system and the consensus of the people, the Socio-Economic Development Program for Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas for the 2021-2030 period has achieved positive results. The targets on poverty reduction, infrastructure improvement, education, health, and cultural development... have all met and exceeded the set plan.

Through the program, it not only contributes to narrowing the development gap between regions but also motivates Thanh Son to transform, gradually becoming a sustainable economic - cultural - tourism region, imbued with national identity in the midlands of the Ancestral Land.
