Pumpkin in Te Lo commune has become a staple crop for many years.
"Positive" income from pumpkin
Previously, the winter crop in many fields mainly grew corn and soybeans with low income, making people not really interested. However, since the province implemented the support mechanism for the production of safe vegetables and fruits according to VietGAP standards, farming techniques have had many positive changes. The products are guaranteed in quality, meet food safety requirements and bring much higher economic value.
In Te Lo commune, pumpkin has become a staple crop for many years. Sharing about the effectiveness of pumpkin, Ms. Nguyen Thi Sang, Nhan Trai village, Te Lo commune said: "We have been cultivating pumpkin for many years so we have mastered the growing techniques. Now, we can harvest both flowers and shoots and there are traders to buy. Overall, pumpkin growing this year is very promising and effective."

Pumpkin plants are effective from 2 to 3 million VND per sao in winter crop production.
Not only stopping at squash, taking advantage of harvesting both flowers and young shoots has increased the value of this crop. Mr. Nguyen Kim Sy, Head of Gia Bang village, Te Lo commune, emphasized the superiority of pumpkin compared to rice: "The efficiency reaches from two to three million VND per sao in winter crop production. It is even more effective than rice. Growing rice, selling one quintal of paddy is only about 850 thousand VND, but now, green pumpkin has traders weighing it on the shore at a price of 10,500 to 11,000 VND/1kg. Traders buy it all. Pumpkin is effective and creates more jobs."
Forming concentrated production areas
Realizing the economic efficiency that pumpkins bring, in recent years, in addition to the area supported by the province according to commodity production areas, farmers in many localities have also proactively expanded the planting area, making the most of the land fund for intensive farming. Thereby, concentrated pumpkin production areas have been formed, creating large commodity output.
This winter crop, the whole province planted more than 500 hectares of pumpkin. Along with the province's timely support mechanism, people's production methods have changed from small-scale, scattered to regional linkage. This has created a large volume of goods, ensuring food safety, increasing the value of agricultural products and production efficiency for people.

Green squash is weighed by traders at the shore at a price of 10,500 to 11,000 VND/kg.
Discussing the results achieved, Mr. Vu Van Thanh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Te Lo commune expressed his excitement and proposed: "In the winter crop of 2025, pumpkins had a much better price than in the winter crop of 2024. Farmers are very excited. These results were achieved thanks to the attention and support of the Provincial People's Committee and the Department of Agriculture and Environment. The People's Committee of Te Lo commune hopes that the Provincial People's Committee will continue to pay attention and support farmers to grow other winter crops more effectively."
Pumpkin is really an effective solution, contributing to the transformation of sustainable agricultural economy and warming people's lives in winter days.
