Despite its great potential, the logistics service industry still has bottlenecks in infrastructure, supporting service facilities, development scale, as well as mechanisms and policies that need to be resolved to help businesses solve the cost "problem" through cooperation and improving internal capacity.
Spearhead in economic development
According to statistics from the Vietnam Logistics Association, our country currently has more than 40,000 enterprises operating in the logistics sector, including: small and medium-sized domestic enterprises; international logistics corporations investing in Vietnam; traditional transportation service companies switching to providing integrated logistics services. Vietnam is the leading country among ASEAN countries in terms of the number of logistics service businesses licensed by the US Maritime Administration; ranked 11th in the group of 50 emerging global logistics markets, according to the Agility 2022 rankings.
Logistics is increasingly emerging as an important service industry in the overall structure of the national economy. As the economic scale of Vietnam grows larger, production of goods, export and import business with the world increases, logistics services also develop and make important contributions. Every year, Vietnam's logistics industry has a relatively high growth rate, reaching 14-16%, contributing about 4-5% to the national GDP.
According to Tran Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of the Import-Export Department ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ), logistics services are the "connecting thread" of the economy. The economy can only develop synchronously and rhythmically when the logistics chain operates continuously. Over time, logistics has become an increasingly important part of the business activities of most types of goods and services.
Despite the high growth rate and much room for development, the logistics industry still has bottlenecks. In localities, the infrastructure serving logistics activities as well as the connection between commercial infrastructure, transport infrastructure, information technology infrastructure... is still at a low level, causing low efficiency in the industry. That leads to high service costs, limited quality of some services, reducing the competitiveness of Vietnamese goods...
Vice President of Dong Nai Import-Export Association Nguyen Duy Hung, Director of Hung Thinh Phat Company Limited (in Tam Hiep Ward) commented: Most of Vietnam's enterprises in the industry are still small and medium-sized. Capital, experience and management level, ability to apply information technology as well as human resource level of most enterprises do not meet the requirements of international operations. Limitations in logistics infrastructure and transportation costs as well as issues of mechanisms and policies are factors that need to be considered and resolved to promote the development of this service industry.
According to the Department of Industry and Trade, Dong Nai strives to affirm its position as a global logistics center by 2050, with logistics systems and infrastructure closely linked together, creating maximum synergy value. The industry will develop a multimodal transport system and high-quality logistics services, based on modern regional and provincial logistics centers.
Dong Nai promotes logistics infrastructure development
In the whole country, Dong Nai is the leading locality in logistics services with a large number of industrial parks; key national transport infrastructure has been and is being developed in the area. In particular, Long Thanh International Airport is considered a "magnet" to attract investment from domestic and foreign enterprises and corporations to Dong Nai.
From its great advantages, businesses in the logistics industry believe that Dong Nai has opportunities for development and needs policies to help logistics services play a greater role in the local economy.

Mr. Phan Anh Tuan, Director of Tan Cang Long Binh Joint Stock Company, said: Dong Nai needs to identify logistics services as an important and spearhead economic sector in the development strategy from now until 2030, with a vision to 2045. Enterprises expect the State to promote administrative procedure reform in the management of logistics activities in the direction of electronicization, intelligence, and compliance with international standards.
In fact, in recent years, Dong Nai has been orienting and planning the logistics service industry to modernize with concentrated and highly specialized planning areas. It is expected that there will be 4 logistics centers planned in the province to establish a system of advanced logistics centers, serving leading domestic and international manufacturers, focusing on exploiting the advantages of Long Thanh International Airport and large projects on neighboring traffic infrastructure.
Recently, the Department of Industry and Trade and logistics enterprises met to prepare for the announcement of the establishment and organization of the 1st Congress of the Dong Nai Logistics Association. It is expected that in December 2025, the congress to establish the association will be held.
According to Mr. Tran Duong Hung, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, the Project on Developing Logistics Infrastructure of Dong Nai is being adjusted to be consistent with the regional planning after the merger of the administrative boundaries of Dong Nai - Binh Phuoc. To ensure compliance with the regional planning and affirm their coordinating role, enterprises and the Dong Nai Logistics Association need to build a development path associated with the strengths of the locality; strengthen the connection between enterprises and the State; contribute policy ideas to the province in developing modern logistics, associated with the production supply chain of the region and the country.
