Removing difficulties for Nhat Tan multi-craft village

In 2004, the Provincial People's Committee recognized Nhat Tan craft village (Nhat Tan commune, Kim Bang district) as a small-scale handicraft village. It is known that Nhat Tan craft village is a multi-craft village with key industries such as weaving, rattan weaving, and carpentry. In recent years, the craft village has created jobs and stable income for many local workers. However, currently, due to difficulties in consuming the village's products, it has significantly affected the jobs and income of workers.

We visited Thang Thuy carpentry workshop of Mr. Nguyen Van Thang in village 5, Nhat Tan commune. Mr. Thang shared: He has been involved in carpentry for nearly 35 years, mainly producing worshiping products, sofas, interiors, rosewood beds and cabinets... Previously, all the products produced were sold as soon as they were produced, with a stable customer base. Each month, he exported about 80-100 household wooden products, but at this time, each month he only sells 50-60 products, a 50% decrease compared to before.

The main reason is that many products originating from China have diverse designs and cheaper prices, so they have dominated the domestic market. Therefore, to improve competitiveness, Mr. Thang's facility has improved designs, caught up with market trends, and used common wood materials to make products at low prices, suitable for consumer needs. In addition, Mr. Thang uses social networking sites and e-commerce sites to promote and sell products to find more customers to maintain and overcome this period.

Thang Thuy carpentry establishment (village 5, Nhat Tan commune) has had many solutions to overcome the difficult period.

For the rattan weaving profession in Nhat Tan, with the advantage of low capital (only 300 - 500 thousand VND is enough to do the job), taking advantage of women and the elderly who are no longer able to do heavy work, but currently facing many difficulties. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoan (village 2) has been involved in the rattan weaving profession for 10 years. Previously, Ms. Hoan could make about 15 - 20 products per day depending on the type, with a daily wage of 120 - 150 thousand VND, now she can only make about 100 thousand VND/day; the number of households still involved in the profession has also decreased by nearly 60%, to only about 200 households. The reason is that the income from this profession is low, orders and output are unstable...

Nhat Tan multi-craft village currently has more than 700 production households, with a workforce of nearly 5,500 people, including 200 households doing carpentry, over 200 households doing rattan weaving, and nearly 300 households maintaining the weaving profession. However, currently, like many other small-scale handicraft villages in the province, Nhat Tan multi-craft village is facing difficulties in finding markets and consuming products. Therefore, with the goal of promoting economic restructuring towards increasing the proportion of industry - small-scale industry and craft villages, in the coming time, Nhat Tan commune will implement a number of key solutions to maintain and develop the craft village.

Comrade Nguyen Quang Thu, Deputy Secretary of the Nhat Tan Commune Party Committee, said: Along with creating all conditions to support production establishments in craft villages to participate in fairs to promote product brands, the Nhat Tan Commune People's Committee continues to support young workers and craft households to access preferential loans to build and expand production scale; at the same time, encourage production establishments to proactively seek new consumption channels. Applying machinery, creating sophisticated products, rich in designs, focusing on product quality.

In addition, the commune also propagates, mobilizes, and creates conditions for production and business households to build brands, promote products, bring products closer to consumers...; strengthens the connection between households to effectively solve problems related to production, promotion, and consumption of products, contributing to promoting local economic development.
