Discussion on the implementation of the Project to strengthen capacity to respond to public health emergencies

On the morning of June 3, the Department of Disease Prevention (Ministry of Health) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) held a meeting to discuss the implementation of the Project "Strengthening capacity to prepare and respond to public health emergencies through a One Health approach" at the An Giang Department of Health.

The project is implemented in 4 border provinces, including An Giang , Dong Thap, Ha Tinh and Ha Giang, with the support of the International Organization for Migration (IOM). Recently, the Department of Disease Prevention has coordinated with IOM to develop a project document with an implementation plan. In particular, the project's objective is to improve the capacity of medical staff, medical quarantine staff, and staff of other relevant departments and agencies (border gate management board, border guards, customs, etc.) working at border gates to prepare and respond to public health emergencies in border areas. At the same time, it raises awareness among the community and migrant groups in border areas, minimizing the risk of infectious disease outbreaks and public health events.

The main activities of the project are to organize workshops, training courses, experience sharing meetings, and communication events to raise awareness about infectious disease prevention and control held in the project provinces, without providing services or equipment.

To complete the procedures for preparing and approving the Project Document, at the discussion session, the Department of Disease Prevention, IOM, provincial departments, branches and sectors discussed and clarified the purpose, scope, beneficiaries and planned activities of the project; agreed on the coordination mechanism between the Department of Disease Prevention, IOM and the provincial Department of Health... Thereby, reporting to the Provincial People's Committee to ask for consent to participate in the project.

On the same afternoon, the Department of Disease Prevention, the Department of International Cooperation (Ministry of Health) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) discussed with the An Giang Center for Disease Control (CDC) about the coordination mechanism for project implementation at border gates and border areas in the province; An Giang's proposal on border areas participating in the project; CDC assigned a focal point in charge of project activities.
