Stay awake with your child

Unfortunately, children with cerebral palsy suffer from a terrible disease, and their childhood is associated with hospitals, gyms, and pain. Many children are seriously ill, living isolated from society, only able to lie in one place, their lives shrinking out of the window...

Having two children with cerebral palsy, for the past 15 years, Ms. H'Mung Nie (Cu Bao commune, Buon Ho town) has not had a full night's sleep. Her children are often sick, unable to move or do daily activities on their own, only able to sit or lie in one place. At first, her family was numb and helpless with the situation. However, she and her husband decided not to surrender to fate but tried to work hard to earn money to pay for their living expenses and treat their children.

For over 10 years, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thao (Phuoc An town, Krong Pac district) has had to swallow her tears countless times when her healthy child was born, but after a while, he suddenly got cerebral palsy and his health gradually deteriorated. Ms. Thao had to stay home and spend all her time taking care of the child and her two other children, while her husband had to work hard as a construction worker and hired laborer to cover living expenses. By working hard to accompany her child and help her persevere with physical therapy exercises, over time, her child's health improved, helping Ms. Thao gain more confidence and strive to give her child a better life.

Doctors from Buon Ma Thuot University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital examine and treat children's teeth at the program "Examination, treatment and consultation on dental care for children with cerebral palsy".

We hope to connect with more benefactors to organize meaningful programs to support children with cerebral palsy, especially implementing a free general examination program for mothers with children with cerebral palsy, who are working 24/7 with their children to fight the disease" - Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Dung , Head of the Association of Families of Children and People with Cerebral Palsy in Dak Lak province.

Perhaps for parents with children with cerebral palsy, a normal life like other families is a distant dream.

After many years of traveling everywhere to find a cure for her child with cerebral palsy, more than anyone else, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Dung (Head of the Association of Families of Children and People with Cerebral Palsy in Dak Lak Province) understands the pain and disorientation of families with children suffering from this disease.

Many mothers, when they learn that their children have this disease, are devastated, withdraw from society and sink into suffering. Not to mention, children with this disease are very weak, often sick, some children occasionally have seizures, behavioral disorders... Care and treatment not only require perseverance but also are very costly.

Sympathizing and understanding the pain of families with children suffering from cerebral palsy, in recent times, the Dak Lak Province Association of Families of Children and People with Cerebral Palsy (under the Vietnam Association of Families of Children and People with Cerebral Palsy) has accompanied, helped and become a bridge to spread the love of the community to children who are unfortunate to have the disease. Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Dung said that the association is currently a place to connect and share with more than 220 families with children with cerebral palsy in Dak Lak province. Most of the members are in very difficult circumstances, not to mention some families where the husband and wife have broken up, leaving only single mothers struggling with life.

With the support and assistance of organizations and benefactors, the association has implemented many meaningful programs for children with cerebral palsy such as entertainment, gift giving, health care, etc. For example, the humanitarian program "Examination, treatment and consultation on oral care for children with cerebral palsy" has been implemented regularly for the past three years by the association in collaboration with Buon Ma Thuot University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital. According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Dung, oral care for children with cerebral palsy is not simple because the children do not know how to cooperate, and there is resistance, so many organizations and clinics are not interested in receiving treatment. Therefore, parents with children with cerebral palsy have high hopes for this program, hoping that their children will have more opportunities to improve their health.

Doctors from Buon Ma Thuot University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital and families with children with cerebral palsy participate in the program "Examination, treatment and consultation on dental care for children with cerebral palsy" in 2025.

In 2024, the Dak Lak Charity Fund will build a free vocational training program with classes such as tailoring, mixing, cooking sweet soup, sales instructions on social networking platforms, etc. Nearly 30 members of the Dak Lak Provincial Association of Families of Children and People with Cerebral Palsy have registered to participate. Many members live far away and have difficult family circumstances, but still arrange to bring their children to Buon Ma Thuot City, making efforts to complete the class. The program has become a "warm home" for learning, sharing and bringing hope to mothers on their journey to find a livelihood to sustain their lives.

Every weekend, the branch office located on Le Duan Street (Buon Ma Thuot City) becomes a meeting place for families with sick children. Children with cerebral palsy can meet, play, and mothers have the opportunity to share experiences in caring for and treating their children, talk about life issues, etc., helping them overcome pressures and look forward to a brighter future.
