Mr. Giang Seo Tin's family in Thanh Binh commune, Muong Khuong district, is anxiously waiting for their grandchild's surgery. Little Giang Manh P. was born with a limp that makes it very difficult for him to walk. While his friends are playing, he can only sit and watch sadly, longing for healthy legs. Upon receiving information about a free surgery program, Mr. Tin's family took him to the doctor and had free surgery. Mr. Tin shared: My grandchild was born with weak legs and had difficulty walking. This time, knowing that a good doctor from the central government has come to perform free surgery for children in the highlands, I am very happy. My family's wish is about to come true, my grandchild will have the opportunity to walk easily, run and play.

Cleft palate causes Tran Thuy C., daughter of Do Thi Hiep in Gia Phu commune, Bao Thang district, to often choke on milk and food, making Hiep extremely worried. Now, C. is over 3 years old, but the cleft palate makes it difficult for her to pronounce words.

After being examined, the baby was given free surgery. The cleft palate surgery was successful, and baby C. was taken care of by the doctors and nurses of the Provincial General Hospital. Holding her child in the post-operative room, Ms. Hiep felt relieved knowing that after this surgery, her daughter's ability to eat, speak and communicate would improve, thereby helping her develop comprehensively and integrate. Ms. Hiep shared: My family is extremely grateful to the doctors and benefactors who helped my child receive free surgery.
Each child who comes to the program carries their own pain. Not all burns can heal on their own over time. Some children are unfortunately burned but due to lack of knowledge or family circumstances, they are not treated properly and promptly. Burns heal with contracted scars, causing deformity, affecting the child's mobility, aesthetics, psychology and long-term quality of life. At that time, plastic surgery, skin grafting, cutting contracted scars, even multiple surgeries and rehabilitation exercises are needed to restore the function of the child's arms and legs. The cost of treatment is not small, making "healing" for many disabled children in difficult circumstances a distant dream.

And on this occasion, the doctors and nurses brought happiness to many burn victims. Among them was Giang A T., 16 years old in Cau May ward, Sa Pa town. The accident happened when T. was less than 1 year old, he fell into a fire and was severely burned. The burn caused his hand to contract due to the scar tissue, limiting his mobility. Due to his family's difficult circumstances, he could not afford treatment. Now that he is 16 years old, the free surgery program has given him the opportunity to recover.
Experts from Hanoi Medical University Hospital with high professional qualifications and open hearts have performed surgery for over 50 children with disabilities related to plastic surgery, congenital malformations of the head, face, neck and patients with burn sequelae. Sharing with reporters, Dr. Hoang Tuan Anh, Head of the Department of Microsurgery, Maxillofacial Plastic Surgery and Laser, Hanoi Medical University Hospital said: Participating in the free surgery program in Lao Cai, we had to work hard to prepare and arrange time because the hospital's doctors are all very busy with a tight surgical schedule. For cases of congenital malformations, a long-term treatment process is often required, and results cannot be achieved immediately after one surgery. This free surgery, in addition to providing the best treatment opportunities for children right in the province, is also a time for exchange and experience sharing to improve the professional quality of medical staff in Lao Cai province.
Through the program, 120 disabled children received free surgery, some of whom were transferred to central hospitals for treatment. Ms. Pham Bich Van, Deputy Director of the Department of Health, said: The medical experts participating in the program not only bring in-depth skills and knowledge, but also share and love for children in mountainous areas with many difficulties such as Lao Cai . We also deeply thank Center II, the unit that has closely accompanied the provincial health sector throughout the preparation process, organizing screening examinations, coordinating human resources and providing technical support for the program. At the same time, we would like to thank the sponsors and volunteer organizations for joining hands and contributing both materially and spiritually so that the program can take place smoothly, safely and effectively.

In the community, there are still many disabled children who need support and sharing. The kindness of the community will contribute to bringing happy smiles and instilling faith in them for a brighter future.
