BHG - Changing the way of thinking and doing, boldly investing in developing livestock and poultry farming on a farm and ranch scale, overcoming the situation of small-scale farming is becoming a direction to help people in the highlands of Ha Giang have a stable income.

Raising livestock on a farm scale brings in hundreds of millions of dong in income each year for people in Group 11, Viet Lam Farm Town (Vi Xuyen).
Raising livestock on a farm scale brings in hundreds of millions of dong in income each year for people in Group 11, Viet Lam Farm Town (Vi Xuyen).

Realizing that small-scale livestock farming does not bring economic value, a few years ago, Mr. Lu Van Chuong, Nam An village, Tu Nhan commune (Hoang Su Phi) boldly borrowed capital to invest in building standard barns to raise buffaloes and cows in the form of fattening. Currently, his family's herd of buffaloes and cows always maintains over 30 heads. In addition, he also raises black pigs for reproduction and raises earthworms to take advantage of the waste of the livestock, forming a closed livestock system. To take good care of his livestock, he regularly attends training courses on biosafety livestock farming techniques; complies with disease prevention measures, and regularly vaccinates all types of vaccines, thanks to which the livestock always develops healthily, while ensuring environmental hygiene. Each year, the integrated livestock farming model brings in over 300 million VND in revenue for his family.

Mr. Lu Van Chuong said: Many years ago, like other families in the village, I mainly raised small-scale livestock and often grazed them naturally to get traction for agricultural production and to meet the family's food needs; the economic value was very low. After learning from the experience of some effective livestock models, I decided to invest in building a comprehensive livestock farm. I realized that raising buffaloes and cows for fattening and serving food on-site instead of grazing them naturally brought about clear results; the herd of buffaloes and cows grew quickly, reached good weight, and shortened the time for sale. Therefore, I always actively shared my livestock raising experience with other local families to change their production mindset and strive to get rich together.

Developing commercial livestock farming from Lung Pu black pigs - a local breed of livestock is a direction that brings success to Tuan Dung Cooperative (Meo Vac), with a revenue of billions of VND each year. The Cooperative currently maintains more than 100 breeding sows, 300 commercial pigs, and annually sells about 1,500 quality breeding pigs to the market; creating regular jobs for 5 local workers with an average income of 5 million VND/person/month. The representative of the Cooperative said: Lung Pu black pigs are a native breed of pigs with high resistance, well adapted to local climate conditions, so they are less prone to disease and easy to raise. The Cooperative focuses on raising livestock in a biosafety direction, using only natural food sources such as corn flour and cassava, so the meat quality is delicious, and the price is therefore much higher. In addition, the Cooperative has invested in building a synchronous livestock barn system, installing a Biogas tank to treat waste, installing a solar power system, creating a closed livestock cycle, ensuring environmental hygiene.

In order to enhance the value of the livestock industry, in recent years, our province has implemented many solutions on mechanisms, policies, investment attraction, processing linkage, and product consumption. In particular, creating all conditions in terms of land funds and capital sources for cooperatives, organizations, individuals, and households to develop livestock farming in the model of family farms and farms. In 2022 alone, the province will increase by 49 farms, bringing the total number of farms to 214. Of which, 2 are large-scale farms, 13 are medium-scale farms, and 199 are small-scale farms. A large number of farms are concentrated in Ha Giang city and the districts of Vi Xuyen, Bac Quang, Quang Binh, and Bac Me.

Currently, districts and cities are focusing on developing 3 livestock product value chains including: Value chain of Vang cows, local black pigs and value chain of Bac Mint honey products. In order to attract businesses and cooperatives to join in production, processing and consumption of livestock products according to the value chain, based on the province's policies, localities have been synchronously implementing preferential tax mechanisms, business support, infrastructure support, markets, trade promotion; supporting start-up projects in the livestock sector.

In addition, specialized sectors also proactively promote, introduce, and expand the market for livestock products, focusing on the province's outstanding products such as: Products processed from buffalo and beef, Bac Ha honey, Black Bone chicken, Lung Pu pig... to consumers nationwide, especially commercial centers, supermarkets, and stores in big cities. Strengthen the connection between units and businesses, and purchase livestock products to stabilize output for people. Encourage the building of links between households, households and cooperatives, and enterprises; linking communes with communes, districts with districts for the same type of livestock products to unify production processes, standards, and product designs, creating a large enough volume of products to meet the purchasing and processing needs of businesses and cooperatives...
