Clean streets and beaches with toilets and danger signs along the beach; orderly food courts with no street vendors or buskers demonstrate the awareness of the people and the systematic way of doing tourism in Dong Hoi City (Quang Binh).
Good way
Coming to Dong Hoi City, Quang Binh Province in mid-April, after many years of not coming here, I saw that this city has changed so much compared to before. On both sides of Nhat Le River, there are high-rise buildings, clean and modern green parks, and further away are real estate projects with an upscale style. The most impressive thing is that the environment here is clean from the small alleys in the village, the neighborhood to the main roads, beaches, parks...
On the beaches, there are many public toilets serving tourists, with a systematic planning. Typically, the beach at Nhat Le estuary, in addition to the safe swimming area, the area that cannot be swum due to strong tides and annual erosion, is planned as a green park, combined with an outdoor food street. For example, the beach in front of Vinh Hoang Hotel on Truong Phap Avenue, from the seafront to the boulevard, the city fences the outside of the seafront with chain posts, and places signs prohibiting tourists from swimming; inside the fence is a green park with an area adjacent to the boulevard, divided into lots for rent for outdoor food business. Mr. Tran Van Hung - Head of the Security Team of Quarter 6, Hai Thanh Ward, which used to be a fishing village at Nhat Le estuary, said: "This beach area cannot be used for swimming because the water is fast flowing and dangerously deep. The city has planned a park, with an outdoor food court with about 30 stalls along Truong Phap Avenue, each with a frontage of about 10m, with a rental price of 25 million VND/year. Operating within the regulations of the management board, from 5pm to 11pm. After this time, they must clean up and return the area to its original condition because this place is also a community green park. We, the security guards, often take turns managing and chasing away street vendors and buskers here." However, sometimes we encounter problems because business people and diners lack awareness, so we must manage well or we will be reported to voters during meetings.
Regarding environmental sanitation, in addition to requiring each family to have a clean trash can in front of their house, public places have trash cans to separate organic and inorganic waste. Each ward coordinates closely with the City Urban Works and Environmental Sanitation Company to promote environmental sanitation among residents.
Create aesthetics
From the above method, Dong Hoi City has created a beautiful landscape, winning the hearts of tourists at any destination. Especially here, there are no street vendors or beggars soliciting customers. Not only in Dong Hoi but also in Phong Nha - Ke Bang tourist area, when there is no beggar or street vendor, only restaurants inviting customers by sending flyers and leaving phone numbers when customers need to come to the restaurant.
Thinking of my hometown Phan Thiet City, I still see begging on the streets, street vendors at destinations such as Mui Ne Sand Dunes, Ong Dia Rock, Duong Hill... The environment in some places is still unsightly, although the city is trying to promote awareness of protecting the city's environment. Each place may have different customs, living conditions and circumstances, but we are all living in a modern civilized world. We can do everything, but a green - clean - beautiful living environment brings aesthetic benefits and protects our health. Dong Hoi City residents are not the only ones who can do that, but many other places are models for many people to learn and follow.
