The value of a men's football gold medal
Despite winning the championship twice in a row in 2019 and 2021, the SEA Games gold medal is still a big desire for Vietnamese football. This is also the focus of competition among countries in the region besides basic sports such as athletics, swimming, shooting...

Especially at the 33rd SEA Games, the sports industry still aims to maintain the No. 1 position of the entire delegation even though the congress takes place in Thailand. This is not an easy goal in the context that the host country Thailand has a strong force, has the right to choose many strong sports and at the same time cut down the key events of competitors. The gold medal in men's football is also the highest goal that FAT and Madam Pang aim for. The Thais even want to capture all 4 gold medals in football, including men's, women's and futsal.
In the above context, the race in men's football has become extremely fierce. Coach Kim Sang-sik himself as well as VFF clearly understand the expectations of football fans for the Vietnam U22 team. The SEA Games gold medal in football always has a special meaning, bringing complete joy to the Vietnamese sports delegation.
Care for each seed
At the 32nd SEA Games (Cambodia), the U22 Vietnam team did not perform well, losing the number 1 position to their opponents. Almost immediately after the end of the congress, VFF planned to prepare their forces for the race at the next SEA Games.
If you look at the list of the U22 Vietnam team participating in the upcoming Panda Cup 2025 in China, you can see that most of them are young faces who are regularly trained and "tested" through many domestic and international tournaments.

Many of these players were once called up by coach Kim Sang-sik to join the Vietnam national team to get used to the pressure and gain experience with their seniors. Khuat Van Khang, Nguyen Dinh Bac, Pham Ly Duc, Van Truong... have all played for the national team and left their mark. They will almost certainly be the pillars of the U22 Vietnam team in the upcoming SEA Games.
In attack, U22 Vietnam has many different personalities such as Dinh Bac, Thanh Nhan or Quoc Viet and notably, this training session has the return of Bui Vi Hao. This helps U22 Vietnam play more diversely. Cases like Van Khang or Dinh Bac, Quoc Viet are often on the field in the National Championship, thereby increasing their ability to withstand pressure.

A special point of U22 Vietnam under Mr. Kim Sang-sik is the unpretentious but very practical playing style. Cases like Van Khang, Viktor Le or Pham Ly Duc all shined at the right time when needed. Goals can come to U22 Vietnam from many directions, even at times when Mr. Kim Sang-sik's team did not play very smoothly. This is also the quality that helped U22 Vietnam overcome difficulties to win the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship in Indonesia and then continue to win a ticket to the 2026 Asian U23 Finals not long ago.
In the context of Malaysian football being in turmoil, Thailand facing many internal problems before the SEA Games, this is an opportunity for U22 Vietnam to achieve its biggest goal.
