Vietnam women's team meets 2 tough opponents at the end of the group stage of SEA Games 33

The host of the 33rd SEA Games, Thailand, has announced the official schedule for women's football. Accordingly, the Vietnamese women's team will face two strong opponents, the Philippines and Myanmar, in the last two matches of the group stage.

On the morning of November 6, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) announced the official match schedule for football and futsal according to updates from the host of the 33rd SEA Games, Thailand.

The women’s football competition will feature eight teams, divided into two groups, playing in Chonburi. The Vietnamese women’s team will be in Group B with Myanmar, Malaysia and the Philippines. Group A will include Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore and Cambodia.

According to the newly announced match schedule, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team will meet Malaysia (December 5), Philippines (December 8) and Myanmar (December 11).

Besides Malaysia, which is quite weak, the Philippines with its naturalized female players and Myanmar are making strong progress, so it will not be easy for the Vietnamese women's team to get a ticket to the semi-finals.

The top two teams will advance to the semi-finals on December 14 at Chonburi Stadium or TNSU Chonburi Stadium, depending on the results of the host team Thailand. The final and bronze medal match will be held on December 17 at Chonburi Stadium.

In the futsal event, the Vietnamese men's futsal team will compete in a round-robin format with opponents Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Myanmar. The matches will take place at the Nonthaburi Stadium.

According to the match schedule, coach Diego Giustozzi and his team will meet Malaysia (December 16), Indonesia (December 17), Thailand (December 18) and Myanmar (December 19).

The Vietnamese women's futsal team, led by coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang, is in Group B with Indonesia and Myanmar. The matches will be held at BTU Hall (Bangkok Thonburi University).

The Vietnamese women's futsal team will play their opening match against Indonesia on December 12 and the remaining group stage match against Myanmar on December 14.

The top two teams in each group will advance to the semi-finals on December 16, before entering the final and bronze medal match on December 18.

Currently, the Vietnamese football and futsal teams are preparing to enter the important training phase for the 33rd SEA Games, aiming for the best results, affirming their position and maintaining the competitiveness of Vietnamese football in the regional arena.

The Vietnamese women's team is training in Hanoi and will leave for Japan for training on November 20.

The Vietnamese women's futsal team will gather in Ho Chi Minh City on November 2. The Vietnamese men's futsal team will gather on November 10, also in Ho Chi Minh City.

Not easy for the Vietnamese women's team

In the two most recent encounters, the Vietnamese women's team lost to the Philippines 0-4 in the semi-finals of the 2022 Southeast Asian Women's Championship and 1-2 in the group stage of the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia.

Meanwhile, the Myanmar women's team just won the runner-up position at the 2025 Southeast Asian Women's Football Championship in Vietnam in August, after only losing narrowly to the Australian U23 women's team 0-1 in the final.

Notably, the Myanmar girls beat the Australian U23 women's team 2-1, drew with the Philippines 1-1 in the group stage and defeated Thailand 2-1 in the semi-finals.
