Chinese music star Jay Chou, through his record label JVR Music, has signed a strategic partnership with one of the world's largest music companies, Universal Music Group (UMG). This will secure the "king's" global music distribution rights and serve as a springboard to support other musical talents within his company.
Jay Chou has just signed a strategic partnership with Universal Music Group.
“We are incredibly proud and excited to welcome Jay Chou, a music icon of our time, into the Universal Music family,” said Timothy Xu, Chairman and CEO of Universal Music China. “This collaboration is a celebration of Jay Chou’s extraordinary artistry and a testament to his timeless global appeal. We are honored to be the guardian of his music.”
JR Yang, CEO of JVR Music, said: "The strategic partnership with UMG marks a new chapter for Jay Chou and JVR, aiming to elevate Mandopop (popular Chinese music) globally. UMG's extensive global network allows us to expand the artistic impact of Jay Chou and other young artists, crossing cultural boundaries to demonstrate the presence of Mandopop in the world market."

"Opening the door" to welcome Jay Chou to UMG, from the music company's side, is a "victory", because his name has influence in the Chinese music market. Not only that, he is also a multi-talented artist.
"Welcoming the legends Jay Chou and JVR to UMG is both a strategic and cultural win," said Adam Granite, UMG's executive vice president, market development. "This partnership reinforces our commitment to nurturing diverse talent and introducing them to a global audience."
Previously, since 2013, Universal Music Publishing Group – UMG’s music publishing company, has become the publisher and copyright protector for Jay Chou and all JVR artists. Therefore, this new strategic agreement opens up a new role for UMG – a comprehensive global strategic partner of the Taiwanese singer and JVR.
This latest strategic partnership between Jay Chou and UMG gives both parties the opportunity to promote Mandopop music
