89-year-old teacher contributes 2 billion VND to scholarship fund for students and lecturers

The money was contributed by Mr. Doan Van Dien to the scholarship fund for studious students and good teachers.

At the recent anniversary celebration of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, Associate Professor Dr. Doan Van Dien, 89 years old, former principal of the school, shared his wish to use his personal money, a total of 2 billion VND, to establish a scholarship fund to support students and lecturers in the school.

Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online on the afternoon of November 26, Associate Professor Dr. Doan Van Dien confirmed that this is a wish he has cherished for a long time. Every year, he gives scholarships to studious students at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry. However, now he hopes to be able to contribute more.

The teacher shared that the 2 billion VND was the amount of money he had saved over the years. He also wished to contribute more of his assets to the school after his death.

"In 40 years at school, I feel that my students, pupils, and teachers are the ones who helped me become the person I am. So I want to thank them," Mr. Dien shared.

Especially for teachers, according to Mr. Dien, their salaries and incomes have improved in recent years. However, if the fund has one or two scholarships for teachers who teach well, do good research, and are loved by students, it will also encourage teachers who love their profession to continue to contribute.

Mr. Dien hopes that the scholarship fund will be able to officially go into operation from 2025.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Tat Toan, principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, confirmed Mr. Dien's wishes. In the next steps, the school will work with Mr. Dien to implement the regulations of the school's scholarship fund, in accordance with financial regulations. Mr. Dien's scholarship fund will be a part of the school's scholarship fund.

Give many scholarships

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Tat Toan commented that Mr. Dien is always dedicated to the school's educational activities and also cares a lot about the young generation of students. Over the years, he has often given many scholarships to disadvantaged students and good students of the school.

Associate Professor Dr. Doan Van Dien started working at Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry in 1975 and served as principal from 1989 to 1994.
