Hoa Binh Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, Vice Principal of Hoang Van Thu High School for the Gifted, is the only Vietnamese teacher to be awarded the Princess Maha Chakri Award (PCMA).
"I am honored to be present at such a solemn and impressive ceremony," Mr. Hung said on November 25, after the award ceremony in Bangkok, Thailand, a week ago.
Coming from the Muong land of Hoa Binh, Mr. Hung prepared a gong as a gift for the Thai princess and introduced her to the culture and customs of the Muong ethnic people.

The PMCA was first held in 2015, to commemorate the 60th birthday of Princess Maha Chakri. The award honors dedicated educators who have made significant contributions to education and human development in the Southeast Asian region. The PMCA is presented every two years, with one recipient per country in odd-numbered years.
Mr. Hung was previously nominated by the Ministry of Education and Training in February 2023 and is also one of 400 outstanding teachers honored by the Ministry in 2022.
Mr. Hung said that he had just arrived at Hoang Van Thu High School for the Gifted for over a year, after 25 years working at Hoa Binh Province's Ethnic Boarding High School. Here, the Geography team that he trained won more than 10 national excellent student awards, accounting for more than 1/3 of the school's awards. In addition, many students won provincial excellent student awards. All of them are children of ethnic minorities.
In addition to his expertise, he is also active in union work with more than ten years of working in the Union. The 30-minute golden model of life skills education for students in ethnic boarding schools by Mr. Hung was recognized by the Central Youth Union as one of 81 typical models nationwide. In 2011, he was awarded the "Outstanding Young Mountain Teacher" award.
Mr. Hung also has a model of educating students about compassion and gratitude through volunteer activities, helping them change positively.

The PMCA award includes a medal, cup, gold brooch and 10,000 USD. Mr. Hung used 10 million to reward students at the two schools he has worked at. He saved the rest, taking annual interest to support students in the national team who are in difficult circumstances.
"Thanks to the support of colleagues, the school, and the trust of parents and students, I have achieved the results I have today. I will not stop but will try harder, spreading positivity and enthusiasm to have more teachers who love their job," said Mr. Hung.
Since 2015, 55 teachers in Southeast Asia have been awarded the PMCA. Before Mr. Hung, Vietnam had four.
