A man in Fujian, China, accidentally found an ancient tomb while digging the foundation for a toilet. Seeing this, he immediately asked the workers to stop and reported the incident to the local authorities. A team of archaeologists immediately went to the scene and excavated.

According to the man, he and his group of workers were digging the ground when they came across many bricks of unusual size. Not only were they very large, but the bricks also had cloud and fish patterns carved on them. Although he did not know what they were, he guessed that they were very old.

After 18 hours of excavation, the true shape of the bricks was revealed. It turned out that they belonged to an ancient tomb. The tomb was built in an arch shape, with an entrance that resembled a cave entrance. Above the tomb was a very thick layer of soil. This ancient tomb was 3.8m long, 1.6m wide and 2.2m high. Experts said that the scale of the ancient tomb was quite large, and its owner must have been a member of the aristocracy.

To the east of the ancient tomb, they found a lot of burial objects. They included a large number of ancient coins, ceramic vases, ceramic wine cups and plates, silver boxes, silver plates, gold rings, jade jewelry, inkstones, etc.

However, experts did not find the remains of the tomb's owner. This surprised them because the tomb was very well preserved. The tomb was almost intact and showed no signs of being dug up or robbed.

This ancient tomb dates back to the Tang Dynasty. It was built in the typical mausoleum style of the Central Plains. The entire tomb was built of red bricks with unique carvings.

After studying old records of the village where the ancient tomb was found, scientists had more useful information to identify the owner.

According to legend, the village was originally named Lu Tho because the first settlers had the surname Lu. This person was an official in the capital, and because of his crime, the king executed his entire family.

The king then sent soldiers to Lu Tho village to kill all the villagers. When the soldiers arrived, they accidentally met an old man washing vegetables at the entrance of the village and asked him if this was Lu Tho village.

However, the old man did not understand what they were saying and only showed them the handful of vegetables in his hand. The soldiers mistakenly thought that this was a Thai village (because in Chinese the word “vegetable” is pronounced “thai”) and left. Thus, the people of Lu Tho village escaped a great disaster.

From then on, they decided to change the name of the village and their family name from Lu to Thai. They also built a tomb for the official. However, because the official was executed in the capital, the ancient tomb only contained burial objects but no remains of the owner.
