Early restoration of power to localities

During the rainy and flood days, the electricity workers are still diligently present at the "hot spots" not only to handle electrical problems but also to proactively expand their headquarters into warm support points for the community.

Set up free charging points

In the Nam Phuoc market area (Nam Phuoc commune), on October 28, 29 and 30, the water rose so quickly that many households were caught off guard. The electricity industry cut off the power to ensure safety, so phones and flashlights ran out of power, making it difficult for people to communicate and manage their daily activities at night.

Realizing the urgent needs of the people, Duy Xuyen Electricity Management Team quickly expanded the headquarters campus at 234 Nguyen Hoang to create a free parking area, arranged phone charging tables, backup batteries, and lighting for 24/7 service. Workers were also assigned to be on duty to check and repair electrical equipment for free in areas that are not flooded but are at risk.

“In difficult times, sometimes having an electrical outlet to charge your phone can also be a bridge to help people contact their relatives and receive information from the local area. What we do is small, but it is the most necessary thing at this time,” said Ngo Dinh Cuong, a worker at Duy Xuyen Electricity Management Team.

Not only in Duy Xuyen, many units of Da Nang Electricity Company also flexibly deploy similar support points.

At the Dai Loc 110kV Transformer Station, the Dien Ban Mobile Operation Team used the shift rest area as a place to support people and relief teams with temporary cooking, phone charging, and night lighting. Inside the small room, tables were placed close together, charging cables were extended in rows. People came and went, both wet and tired, but when they saw the bright lights and the greetings of the electricians, everyone felt relieved.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien (Ha Nha commune) stopped by to charge her phone to contact her son who works far away. She emotionally said: “My phone ran out of battery and the house was flooded. I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to text my son about the situation. When I heard that there was a free charging point at the power station, I was so happy. They even poured me warm water and asked me how I was doing. In the middle of the flood, having a place with lights like this makes people feel much more secure.”

A group of young people participating in the local support force shared: “We go to distribute necessities, we have to be in constant contact, without this charging point it would be very difficult to manage. The electricity workers are very enthusiastic, when they see someone wet they give them a towel, when they see someone hungry they make noodles. Sometimes that is all we need to show our humanity in the midst of floods.”

Meanwhile, in Dai Loc commune, the local Electricity Management Team set up a free charging point at 63 Quang Trung. People can come at any time of the day to charge their devices, take a break from the rain, or ask for technical support. The long charging tables and the tired but still smiling faces of the electricians have become a warm image in the cold sea.

Early restoration of power supply to areas

As an essential infrastructure management unit, floods are not unexpected situations, so Da Nang Electricity Company has built many proactive response plans for each level of natural disaster; at the same time, maintaining a 24/7 duty regime at all power management teams, promptly handling incidents when they occur.

Workers are used to staying on flooded roads, paddling boats or using safety ropes to reach damaged power stations and poles. It is not just a job but also a responsibility to the community, a spirit of “where the water rises, there is an electrician standing”.

Mr. Tran Dinh Tam, Deputy Director of Da Nang Electricity Company said: “We only turn on the power when we check and verify that the area is safe. The highest goal is to protect people's lives and property. Besides restoring power, supporting the community within the unit's capacity is a task that we determine to do proactively and responsibly.”

The electricity sector also recommends that people take safety measures during the rainy season. When the water starts to flood, turn off the circuit breaker and main circuit breaker in the house; do not touch electrical wires, electrical equipment or outdoor power stations when it is raining or flooded; if an electrical incident is detected: call the Regional Electricity Management Team or hotline 19001909 for timely handling.

According to the Central Power Corporation (EVECPC), some lines and stations are still unable to operate due to landslides and separation. The 110kV Dak Mil 4, Phuoc Son lines and the double circuit Tra My and Song Tranh 2 switching stations are temporarily isolated to ensure safety. The two 110kV Phuoc Son and Nam Tra My transformer stations are still unable to be energized. Da Nang Electricity is urgently inspecting the scene, planning to supply power to the 110kV Phuoc Son station via the 22kV 471/TTG Hiep Duc line and the Nam Tra My station via the Nuoc Xa intermediate line.

Power supply was interrupted mainly in 60 communes and wards in inner-city, coastal and mountainous areas. EVNCPC requested units to continue to mobilize maximum human resources and means; coordinate with local authorities to ensure electrical safety and restore power supply as soon as possible, prioritizing hospitals, administrative agencies, isolated residential areas and important loads.

Nearly 170,000 customers in the Central region have had power restored after floods

EVNCPC said that as of 7 a.m. on October 31, about 310,000 customers in 4 provinces and cities were still without power due to the effects of prolonged rain and floods. Compared to the same time on the morning of October 30, nearly 170,000 customers had their power restored. Accordingly, Da Nang city was the most affected area with more than 225,000 customers and 2,031 transformer stations without power, losing about 121.2 MW of capacity.
