Singer of love songs
In the midst of a bustling music market with many new trends, sometimes only short-lived, Nguyen Ngoc Anh chose her own path, calm, loyal to a disciplined and sustainable musical path. The female singer was born in 1981 in Quang Ninh, famous since childhood from the "Golden Nightingale" Contest thanks to her clear voice. When she grew up, she continued to choose the path of professional singing, affirming her forte in singing love songs with ballads and R&B.
Nguyen Ngoc Anh won the Gold Medal at the National Voice Contest in 1999 and the Third Prize at the Hanoi Young Voice Contest in 2001. She became famous after winning the Second Prize at the Sao Mai Contest in 2005. The female singer also entered the top 5 at the Sao Mai Rendezvous Contest in 2006.
After the competitions, Nguyen Ngoc Anh still appeared regularly on television programs, most recently in the art program at the Hanoi World Culture Festival. She released 3 albums with 2 talented musicians: musician Do Bao (“Wonderful World” in 2007, “Late Blooming Flower” in 2011) and musician Pham Hai Au (“From the Heart”, in 2016). In 2022, she returned in a collaborative album with To Minh Duc titled “Softly Sing Old Love”.
This album “Loi hanh uoc” is one of the clear evidences of Ngoc Anh’s meticulous and perfectionist personality. The album includes 8 songs with diverse nuances, from Pop mixed with Rock, R&B, Ballad, Retro to City Pop. In particular, musician Ho Hoai Anh is responsible for three compositions: “Khep lai do dang”, “3 met tren troi troi” and “Dong sang di mong”. Three songs, three different emotional shades: A tearful narrative, a gentle sadness and a modern, thorny personality, true to the spirit of “constantly renewing” that Nguyen Ngoc Anh aims for.
According to musician Ho Hoai Anh, who composed 3 songs for the album “The Promise”: “This is a big turning point for Ngoc Anh. She is still a singer with rare vocal talent, but has found a way to sing that balances technique and emotion. That is why Nguyen Ngoc Anh has always maintained the heat of her voice and found her own position without any noise.”
Approaching the "gen Z" audience
Sharing about “The Promise”, Nguyen Ngoc Anh said that the album was released at a favorable time, right in the most beautiful autumn weather of Hanoi, when everyone seems to slow down to feel life and love. What is more special to her is the trust of the musicians when entrusting their “brainchildren” to her to express in new music products. “I am not a “hot” singer in the market, but I have always received the trust and love of musicians and colleagues, that is something I really appreciate” - the female singer shared.
In addition to the deep lyrical songs, talking about many levels of emotions of love, the album "Loi hau uoc" also has "gen Z" songs that she performed with a very unique, youthful and unique color. In particular, the song "Dong sang dich mong" recorded an interesting duet between Nguyen Ngoc Anh and singer Tung Duong. Musician Ho Hoai Anh said that the co-composer of this song with him in the lyrics was author Ha Quang Minh. Both of them said to each other that "singing" Tung Duong with Ngoc Anh was also a difficult "singing" because the two voices had too many differences, but that was also a challenge for him to write the song.
“Dong sang di mong” when posted on digital music platforms immediately created attraction and spread quickly not only because of the music and lyrics with many hidden meanings about life but also because of the novel combination of two voices. When talking about this song, Ngoc Anh shared that although she is having a fulfilling life, in this album there are many songs that talk about thoughts and worries that anyone can encounter, including “Dong sang di mong”.
“Both Tung Duong and I sing with the incarnation of different lives. The song is written in a modern style, not too challenging for the vocals but enough to allow us to freely create, soar, and reach many young audiences” - Nguyen Ngoc Anh shared.
Although she does not follow the crowd and trends, with her new music products, Nguyen Ngoc Anh also shows a breakthrough in style and performance. She chose many compositions by young musicians to perform, such as "The Last Waltz" by young musician Hekii - Nguyen Bao Ngoc, a student of Ho Hoai Anh; two songs "Xay Mong" and "Den Ben Em" by young musician Pham Thanh Ha; "Mot Nguoi Khong Cho Rieng Minh" by author Zen. Especially the song "Loi Hen Uoc" composed and produced by singer To Minh Duc, Ngoc Anh's life partner.
Evaluating Nguyen Ngoc Anh's change in his new music product, People's Artist Ha Thuy said that Nguyen Ngoc Anh has a strong personality, always thirsty and passionate in art. This album shows freshness and youthfulness, but still exudes depth in Nguyen Ngoc Anh's musical expression, which is more experienced, deeper and more emotional.
