Participating in ASIAD 19 with 337 athletes, competing in 32 sports with the target of achieving 2-5 gold medals, Vietnamese sports demonstrated the viewpoint of "knowing yourself, knowing your opponent" in the large continental arena, which attracts many world-class stars to compete.
Vietnam sports delegation will receive very high achievement awards
The predicted results were not high, and no TV station in Vietnam bought the broadcasting rights for ASIAD 19, so it was only close to the departure date of the Vietnamese sports delegation that the "hot" reward for the performance of the delegation members was proposed through the announcement of many sports federations and associations.
In addition to the regulations on rewarding achievements issued by the Government , the efforts of sports federations and associations in finding funding sources to have more funds to reward coaches and athletes are highly appreciated. This very practical encouragement brings a significant increase in income for athletes with good achievements.
Shooting athletes receive bonuses at sports events
At the 18th ASIAD in 2018, the "hot" bonus for athletes was raised to a dizzying level, about 300 million VND for the gold medal in the women's long jump of Bui Thi Thu Thao (athletics). The two pencak silat athletes who won gold medals, Tran Dinh Nam and Nguyen Van Tri, and the women's rowing team that won gold medals (Ho Thi Ly-Luong Thi Thao-Pham Thi Thao-Ta Thanh Huyen) also received very high rewards.
Bui Thi Thu Thao won gold medal in long jump at ASIAD 18 and received a prize of nearly half a billion VND.
At the 19th ASIAD, the difficulties mentioned above have significantly affected the decisions of many businesses in accompanying or not accompanying Vietnamese sports. However, in the context that no business has offered a bonus, some sports federations and associations, through business relationships, have also found funding to reward athletes who win medals.
Official information from the Vietnam Olympic Committee said that the reward for athletes and teams winning gold medals is 200 million VND. In addition, 85 million VND is the reward for silver medals, 55 million VND for bronze medals and if they break a record at the ASIAD, they will be rewarded with an additional 55 million VND.
Athletics offers 600 million reward for relay gold medal
Sports federations and associations also announced rewards for their coaches and athletes if they achieve high results at the 19th ASIAD. Specifically, the Vietnam Athletics Federation will award 600 million VND/gold medal for the relay team event and 300 million VND/gold medal for the individual event.
The Vietnam Sepak Takraw Federation announced a bonus of VND300 million for each gold medal, while the Vietnam Judo Federation will award VND300 million to the athletes with the highest achievements. The Vietnam Gymnastics Federation will award VND100 million for each gold medal, while the Vietnam Cycling and Motor Sports Federation will award VND80 million to the cyclist who wins the championship.

The Vietnam Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Federation announced the rewards of 30 million VND, 20 million VND and 10 million VND for the respective achievements of gold, silver and bronze medals, while the Karate Department - Department of Sports and Physical Training offered a reward of 3,000 USD (about 72 million VND) for the team gold medal, 1,000 USD (about 24 million VND) for the individual gold medal, 300 USD (7.2 million VND) for the silver medal and 200 USD (4.8 million VND) for the bronze medal.
Weightlifting gold medalist receives 30 million VND bonus
While the Hanoi National Sports Training Center has completed the reward fund with 200 million VND/gold medal, Ho Chi Minh City still maintains the reward level of 140 million - 85 million - 55 million for athletes winning gold, silver and bronze medals in addition to the level of support up to 30 million VND for champions.
Hong Kong (China) offers a huge reward of HK$1 million (over VND3 billion) for individual gold medals and HK$2 million (over VND6 billion) for team gold medals. The Philippines also offers sky-high rewards, including 3 million pesos (about VND1.3 billion) for individual gold medals, 1 million pesos for silver medals and 500,000 pesos for bronze medals. The Philippines sends a total of 396 athletes to compete in all 40 sports at the 19th ASIAD. Indonesia also promises big rewards, possibly an apartment, for athletes who win medals at the 19th ASIAD.
