Storm No. 13 came, bringing heavy rain, ships rocking under big waves, whirlwinds destroying houses, rocks and soil crashing down dangerous mountain passes, raging floods raging day and night. Nature spoke in the language of storms and floods...
In previous years, we talked about strange rains, strange storms, and strange thunderstorms. This year, everything is present in a frightening way, with extreme rain, floods rising by the hour, breaking historical peaks, landslides overnight, and winds far stronger than forecast. We are also used to the seasonal cycle of rain and storms. But now, natural disasters follow natural disasters, regardless of the time. Heavy rain turns into floods. Mountains overflow and erode. Rocks and soil burst after only a few hours of soaking in water. Rivers that were once gentle suddenly become ferocious, sweeping everything away.

Storms and floods sweep away homes and property, landslides tear up roads and mountains. Behind these disasters are felled forests, deeply gouged hillsides, and narrowed riverbeds. And each time, we understand once again - natural disasters are exposing the weaknesses of unsustainable development.
Every time there is a natural disaster, we are filled with pain and sorrow as we see houses with roofs blown off, submerged, or buried; villages isolated and in dire straits; bridges and ships swept away and broken; urgent cries for help and families losing loved ones...

The bonds of human love in times of crisis are strengthened. Roads will be repaired. Roofs will be built. Pain will be reduced, life will be restored. But the voice of nature continues to show the urgency of environmental protection, planning work to ensure ecological balance.
Nature will not wait for us to adapt and without positive movements, it may become more and more fierce. People must be the first proactive and quick-reacting force in responding to natural disasters, by mastering survival and self-protection skills. Participating in the community warning network is also very important, because human eyes, human ears and the vigilance of the whole community will be effective first and fastest. But the especially important solution is to be proactive, act faster and more decisively, to establish a sustainable living environment.
The government needs to upgrade and design road, dam and bridge infrastructure to cope with extreme climate conditions. Ending deforestation and restoring protective forests cannot be a movement. Forests must be a “green wall”, a “shield”, a real “shield” against floods and landslides. All residential areas in high-risk areas must be removed by resolute and planned relocation.
Science and technology must become the foundation of a system of forecasting, monitoring, and early warning, accurate enough to reach every mountainous village, every community, and every resident in low-lying, coastal areas. At the same time, all acts of encroachment and destruction of the natural environment must be strictly handled.

This is not just the task of any particular industry. It is the task of the whole nation. Sustainable development is a vital condition to protect our own lives. Only then can we reduce the fury of nature and minimize damage and loss caused by natural disasters.
