Initial damage caused by storms in Xa Mang village is about more than 5.5 billion VND.

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - Due to the impact of storm No. 5, from August 25 to August 26, 2025, Son Dien commune experienced prolonged heavy rains over a wide area; the water level in Luong River and streams rose, causing flash floods. In particular, at 4:30 p.m. on August 26, in Xa Mang village, flash floods and landslides occurred, causing damage to houses, property, rice, crops, and aquatic products of the people, estimated at more than 5.5 billion VND.

According to statistics from the Civil Defense Command of Son Dien commune, flash floods damaged 6 households, affecting the lives of 34 people in Xa Mang village. Of these, 3 houses/17 people suffered 30-50% damage; 2 houses/10 people suffered very heavy damage from 50-70% and 1 house was completely swept away by the flood.

In addition, more than 50m of concrete road within the village and 150m of concrete road between villages were buried and completely washed away. There were more than 100 landslides on the residential roads, village roads, and inter-village roads, causing local congestion with a volume of over 1,000m3.

Commune authorities approached the village.

Flash floods buried and swept away more than 3 hectares of rice and 10 fish ponds of Xa Mang villagers; one classroom in Xa Mang area collapsed, the Kindergarten area is at high risk of landslides and many properties of the schools were damaged. Along with that, the traffic infrastructure, electricity, and communication were completely paralyzed. The total initial damage value is estimated at more than 5.5 billion VND.

People were evacuated to safety.

Upon receiving the news, the Civil Defense Command of Son Dien commune inspected, promptly grasped the situation, mobilized forces, equipment and machinery on site to support the evacuation of people and move assets to safe places; organized the relocation of households living along streams and high hillsides at risk of landslides. Assigned 24/7 duty and Command duty according to regulations.
