Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Quy Kien speaks at the meeting

Reporting on the results of the exploration of laterite as a cement additive in Cu Nam and Son Loc communes, Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province, Mr. Pham Dinh Chien - North Central Geological Federation (Vietnam Geological Department), the consulting unit said: The exploration results have clarified the geological structure, distribution characteristics, morphology and size of laterite ore bodies in the exploration area. The analysis results of the samples showed that the quality of laterite ore meets the standards for making cement additives.

Laboratory technology sample testing results show that with raw materials of limestone, clay, silica, quartz, coal taken from Song Gianh cement factory and laterite taken from the exploration area, it is possible to produce Portland cement that satisfies the technical requirements of TCVN 2682:2020 standard.

In addition, the hydrogeological - engineering geological characteristics and mining conditions are studied in detail, with sufficient documents to serve the design of open-pit mining by the dry-draining method. The exploration area has favorable mining conditions, far from residential areas, so mining has little impact on the ecological environment of the area. Therefore, the mine needs to be invested in early to contribute to meeting the demand for laterite ore as a cement additive of cement factories in the province.

Mr. Nguyen Trung Truc - Chairman of the Board of Members of Mien Tay Company Limited spoke at the meeting.

According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Toan - Office of the National Mineral Reserves Assessment Council, the report on the results of the exploration of laterite as a cement additive in Cu Nam and Son Loc communes, Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province has collected and synthesized full exploration documents, determined the geological characteristics of the mine, assessed the scale and quality of laterite ore in the exploration area. The reserves after exploration reached 110% compared to the project's target.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Trung Truc - Chairman of the Board of Members of Mien Tay Company Limited, the investor of the laterite exploration project for cement additives in Cu Nam and Son Loc communes, Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province, expressed his thanks to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and related ministries for their support in the project implementation process up to today's results. Mien Tay Company hopes to continue receiving support so that the company can soon complete the mine licensing procedures.

Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Quy Kien and members of the National Mineral Reserves Assessment Council approved the estimated reserves at the above mine. Accordingly, the Council agreed that the natural reserves of laterite ore at level 121+122 are 901 thousand tons, of which level 121 reserves are 206 thousand tons and level 122 reserves are 695 thousand tons.

Mr. Pham Dinh Chien - North Central Geological Federation reported the results of laterite exploration as cement additives in Cu Nam and Son Loc communes, Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province.

Also at the meeting, the Council approved the mineral reserves associated with limestone as cement raw materials within the scope of Exploitation License No. 2017/GP-BTNMT dated August 2, 2019 of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Nui Trau, Nui Com and Nui Chau Hang limestone mines, Hoa Dien commune, Kien Luong district, Kien Giang province, invested by Vicem Ha Tien Cement Joint Stock Company and Geological Mine Survey, Design and Construction Consulting Joint Stock Company as the consulting unit.

Specifically, the results of calculating the mineral volume included in the 122 limestone reserves used as cement raw materials at the mine show that there are about 23.86 million tons of low-quality limestone used as mixing materials in cement production; about 1.641 million tons of clay used as cement raw materials and about 1.155 million m3 of cover soil used as filling materials.

In addition, the report also calculated the volume of minerals included in the resource blocks of level 333 limestone as cement raw materials at the mine, of which low-quality limestone as mixing material in cement production is 4.449 million tons; cement raw clay is 2.229 million tons; and soil cover as filling material is 493.57 thousand m3.
