Latest information on car bomb explosion in India, dozens of casualties

According to NDTV, a car bomb exploded near the Red Fort in the capital Delhi, India, on the evening of November 10, killing 9 people and injuring many others. The first images of the suspect - the driver of the car that exploded - have appeared. It is Dr. Umar Mohammad.

CCTV footage shows the car parked near the Red Fort for three hours, without the driver leaving the vehicle for even a second. The car eventually drove towards a traffic light near the metro station, where it exploded at around 6:52 p.m.

Umar Mohammad, born on February 24, 1989, in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, is a doctor at Al Falah Medical College in Faridabad. He is said to be a close aide of Dr Adeel Ahmad Rather and Dr Mujammil Shakil, who were arrested on November 10 in connection with a recent terror cell busted by the Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana police.

Investigators believe Umar fled Faridabad after learning of the arrest of his accomplices and the seizure of 2,900 kg of explosives in the past few days. Sources said he “paniced” and triggered the blast near the Red Fort.

"Umar Mohammad and his accomplices planted explosives in the car and carried out the terrorist attack in a crowded area near the Red Fort," sources said.

Investigations revealed that the car had changed hands several times.

Umar’s mother and brothers have also been detained for questioning in Jammu and Kashmir. Umar Mohammad’s links with the doctors arrested in Faridabad in the past few days are still being investigated.
