North-South Expressway Opening: Good news and opportunity for breakthrough

Returning to the story of construction and progress of the North-South expressway, at the meeting of the State Steering Committee for important national projects and works, key to the transport sector (November 8), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Head of the Steering Committee, commented and informed that in 2025, we can exceed the target set by the 13th Congress on infrastructure development (3,000 km of expressway and 1,700 km of coastal road) and by December 19, the expressway from Cao Bang through Lang Son, to Hanoi , through the Central region and Ho Chi Minh City, to Ca Mau will be inaugurated.

Also at the meeting, it was reported that the Ministry of Construction and localities are making efforts to implement the construction of 733 km of highways with 22 projects and component projects. Of these, 16 component projects with a total length of 575 km are on track to be completed by 2025.

Thus, with many completed projects and 3,000 km of expressway reaching the finish line... it is considered a "great miracle" of infrastructure continuously created in the 5-year term 2020 - 2025. Thereby, gradually perfecting the modern traffic picture, creating a launching pad for the country to enter a new era.

It can be said that this is not only a technical milestone but also a historical milestone in the effort to complete the national transport network, when all important highway sections are connected into a transport corridor across the country.

When the expressway from Cao Bang to Ca Mau is completed and opened, the most obvious significance is the shortening of travel time on the vital road between regions and localities from the remote areas of the northern border to the southernmost part of the country. A journey that used to take many days can now be shortened to just a few dozen hours, making it more convenient. This makes a fundamental change, with great significance to many aspects of life, economy and society. From transportation costs, competitiveness of goods and speed of resource circulation between regions. With reduced logistics costs, production, business, import and export enterprises will have clear advantages. Especially with some goods, it will be more convenient in transportation and circulation such as agricultural products, fruits, seafood from the Mekong Delta to the North, goods transported between localities, to border gates, gathering points, seaports will also be more convenient, shortening time, costs...

In terms of regional economy, the North-South Expressway will create a very strong spillover effect. A smooth highway will be a big "plus" in the competitive profile of many localities, especially those localities that were previously disadvantaged and lacked connectivity due to difficult transport.

The time for the expressway from Cao Bang to Ca Mau to be opened is approaching, everyone is focusing on completing the goal. On November 12, the Government Office issued Document No. 11074/VPCP-CN conveying the direction of Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh on accelerating the progress of 04 expressway projects: Hoa Lien - Tuy Loan, Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon, Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon and Quy Nhon - Chi Thanh sections under Inspection Team No. 01 on accelerating the progress of 4 North - South expressway projects, ensuring completion on December 19, 2025.

The North-South Expressway is identified as the “backbone” road axis of the country in the new era. Investing in and putting the entire route into operation will create a driving force to promote socio-economic development, enhance national competitiveness, and contribute to the successful implementation of the goals set by the 13th Party Congress.
