Hanoi National University said that the 2025 Competency Assessment Exam has completed 6 rounds, attracting nearly 90,000 candidates.

The candidate with the highest score in 2025 was 130/150 (this candidate took the Science exam (Physics, Chemistry and Biology). The lowest score was 31/150.

The percentage of candidates achieving a score of ≥ 105/150 is about 3.94%; the score of ≥ 100/150 is 8.13%; the score of ≥ 90/150 is 23.7%; from 80/150 and above is 47.2%; from 75/150 is 60.2%.

Score distribution of Hanoi National University's HSA test in 2025.

Thus, compared to 2024, the average score of the Competency Assessment exam in 2025 is about 2.3 points higher (78.8 compared to 76.5). This shows that the exam results in 2025 tend to increase slightly, up about 2-3 points compared to the same period last year.

A notable difference is that the lowest score in 2025 is much higher than in 2024 (31 points compared to 17 points). This may indicate that the 2025 exam is not too “puzzling” at the basic level. At the same time, the percentage of candidates achieving good scores (≥90; ≥100) in 2025 also increased slightly compared to 2024.

Despite the slight increase in scores, the distribution has been generally stable over the years – the median has remained around 76-78 points for the past three years, despite the number of candidates increasing by 15-25% each year.

According to Hanoi National University, the average score tends to increase slightly but still ensures high differentiation, which can predict that the admission score using the HSA exam will increase, especially in hot majors.

According to the instructions of the Ministry of Education and Training, the scores in the first line are calculated by the average of the 3 candidates with the highest scores corresponding to each test and subject group.

HSA Point Conversion Plan to 30 Point Scale

In 2025, the Ministry of Education and Training requires the conversion of individual exam scores to a 30-point scale to unify admission methods and ensure fairness. However, according to Hanoi National University, the relationship between HSA scores and high school exam scores is not linear 1-1 due to the different nature of the two exams.

Therefore, Hanoi National University has proposed the conversion method by percentile (Equipercentile), the principle guided by the Ministry of Education and Training. This method will use the test results data of candidates taking both the HSA and the high school exam, helping to directly compare the results of the same group of people. The percentile of each HSA score is calculated, then the corresponding high school combination score is found at the same percentile. This method preserves the relative rankings of candidates between the two methods, ensuring fairness in competitive rankings. The conversion can be done separately for each high school admission combination (A00, A01, B00, C00, D01, ...) to match the characteristics of each block.

The 2025 HSA exam will be held in 6 sessions, from March 15 to May 18. There were 90,632 candidates registered, of which 89,059 candidates took the exam, reaching a rate of 98.3% (of which 5 candidates were suspended from the exam).

The HSA 2025 exam has a 3-part structure, with a maximum score of 150 in 195 minutes. Part 1: Mathematics and data processing (50 questions, 75 minutes). Part 2: Language - Literature (50 questions, 60 minutes). Part 3: Multiple Choice - Science/English (50 questions, 60 minutes). Candidates choose 3 out of 5 topics: Physics, Chemistry, History, Geography or English.

The test format is designed to assess competency according to the 2018 GeneralEducation Program.
