Representatives of the Provincial Women's Union congratulated the "Leaders of Change" Club of Thanh Ha Secondary School (Lac Thuy) for being recognized by the Vietnam Women's Union as one of the 20 outstanding collectives nationwide.
Established in May 2023, the "Leaders of Change" Club was born with the mission of building a safe and friendly school environment and promoting the role of students, especially ethnic minority students, in spreading the message of gender equality and violence prevention. With 30 members, mostly female ethnic minority students from grades 6 to 9, of which 16 come from 2 extremely disadvantaged residential areas, the Club quickly became a bright spot in the movement of life skillseducation and raising community awareness.
Every month, the Club organizes 1-2 activities with practical topics such as: preventing school violence, preventing sexual abuse, consequences of early marriage and incestuous marriage, sex education, behavioral skills in cyberspace... Diverse forms of activities: games, drama, group discussions, speeches... help students easily absorb, actively express their opinions, improve presentation skills, communication and teamwork.
Ms. Hoang Thi Tuyet Chinh, Vice Principal and host of the club, shared: "We not only want students to understand the problem, but also hope that they become the subject of change creation. Each student in the club is an active nucleus, a propagandist who conveys knowledge to friends, family and the community."
Since its inception, the Club has organized 26 meetings, attracting more than 7,000 students and parents. Club members have participated in many competitions and training courses at the provincial and district levels, winning many awards such as: second prize in the province at the Contest "Composing communication products to raise awareness of gender equality for children in ethnic minority and mountainous areas" in 2023; second prize in the Contest on Propaganda against social evils and school violence organized by the Department of Education and Training in 2024.
In particular, the educational environment at Thanh Ha Secondary School has changed significantly: for two consecutive school years, there have been no cases of students being bullied, abused, dropping out of school or having accidents. The rate of good and excellent students is over 50%; good conduct is 81.5%. Club members also achieved many outstanding achievements in studying and creativity. In the 2024-2025 school year, 6 students won consolation prizes in the district-level excellent student competition for secondary school students; 1 student won consolation prizes in the provincial IOE competition; 2 students won consolation prizes in the district-level STEAM and Science and Technology Innovation Festival; 2 students won prizes at the provincial-level Youth and Children's Creativity Competition with the product "Fire warning system and automatic ladder to rescue people"; 2 members won third prizes at the provincial level in the 7th "Students with startup ideas" competition; 5 outstanding students attended the Uncle Ho's Good Children Congress of Lac Thuy district, of which 1 student was selected to attend the provincial congress.
The above achievements not only affirm the learning and creative capacity of the Club members but also demonstrate the sustainable effectiveness of the student-centered educational model, nurturing social responsibility and aspirations in ethnic minority students.
Not only do the club members spread their knowledge to the community, they also do not stop at the school campus. Thanks to these "young leaders", two particularly disadvantaged residential areas in the area no longer have early marriage or incestuous marriage, 100% of children go to school at the right age, and more than 60% of them have good or excellent academic performance.
Comrade Bui Thi Nga, President of the Women's Union of Ba Hang Doi town, commented: "The 'Leader of Change' Club model is not only a useful playground but also a comprehensive educational environment for ethnic minority children. The Association will continue to accompany and replicate the model in many other areas."
The success of the Club comes from the close coordination between the Women's Union, the Education sector, local authorities, parents and especially the proactive and creative spirit of the students. In the coming time, the Club will continue to innovate the content of activities, increase experiential activities, apply information technology, listen to student feedback to adjust the method more appropriately.
Ms. Hoang Thi Tuyet Chinh affirmed: "We expect you to not only be the ones to convey the message, but also to become the ones who create the future - a future without prejudice, without violence and full of equal opportunities for all."
