Ignacio Arce has a crazy situation. |
Deportivo Riestra were 1-0 down in the 61st minute when defender Facundo Mino was sent off, but Arce stunned everyone when his team needed a boost in defence.
After a scramble in the penalty area, the ball bounced right to Arce. Instead of just holding the ball to calm his teammates, Arce suddenly rushed out, threw the ball to the ground and dribbled it up the middle of the field himself.
He dribbled confidently towards the centre circle before being pressed by Instituto players. Arce tried to pass to the right but, ironically, referee Andres Merlos stood in his way. The attempt failed and the 33-year-old continued to dribble forward.
The result? He was caught by Jeremias Lazaro, who stole the ball right behind him. The ball was immediately passed to Gaston Lodico. And as Arce was still running "half-dead" back to the goal, Lodico gently chipped the ball from 30 meters away, making the score 2-0 while the Riestra defense was helpless. In the end, Riestra lost 0-3.
Ignacio Arce lost the ball and conceded the second goal. |
Immediately after the clip went viral on social media, fans were surprised by the comments: "This guy thinks he's the main character in the game", "Arce has turned into a joke", "He even has to avoid the referee", "Did anyone tell him this isn't in the game".
After the match, Arce spoke about the awkward situation: "That's my style, to play bravely. Mistakes are common, even the best players make mistakes. Today is a lesson." He also partly blamed referee Merlos for blocking the pass.
In response, referee Merlos could only laugh: "Now it's my fault? This is so Arce-like. He's reckless, talented, but sometimes recklessness turns into mistakes."
