(HNMO) - In preparation for the 2023 Women's World Cup, the goalkeepers of the Vietnamese women's team are actively practicing to be in the best condition before entering matches with strong opponents such as the US, Netherlands and Portugal.
Updating on the current situation, goalkeeper coach Nguyen Thi Kim Hong said: “The team’s four goalkeepers are trying to practice with great spirit. Recently, in the first friendly match, head coach Mai Duc Chung chose to use goalkeeper Kim Thanh. Kim Thanh’s performance is stable. The team’s second goalkeeper, Khong Thi Hang, is also in good form. Hopefully, these two goalkeepers will continue to compete with each other and try to show their full potential.”
“In the last match, although the opposing team had many young players, their attack and finishing were very good. If our team had been careless and not defended tightly, the opposing team could have scored more goals.
In the recent training sessions, the goalkeepers also actively trained their physical strength with the whole team, combined with separate exercises on defending high balls, practicing the ability to judge situations, and entering and exiting appropriately. The upcoming tournament is a very big tournament, the important thing is that the goalkeeper and defenders must have a connection, the goalkeeper must command the defense and coordinate closely to be able to limit the opponent's dangerous moves. Our team is very small in size but we can hope for Kim Thanh's reflexes", coach Kim Hong added.
The Vietnamese women's team will have 2 more weeks of training in Europe and 10 days in New Zealand to thoroughly prepare for the Women's World Cup in July and August.
