The General Statistics Office has just announced the 2023 Population Living Standards Survey. This is a sample survey under the National Statistical Survey Program, which is conducted to collect information as a basis for assessing living standards, assessing poverty and the gap between rich and poor, and monitoring and evaluating a number of national target programs.
The 2023 population living standards survey was conducted in 63 provinces and centrally run cities, including 46,995 households representing the whole country, urban and rural areas, 6 geographical regions, and provinces/centrally run cities.
Accordingly, the average income per person/month in Nghe An in 2023 reached 4,0505 million VND, ranked 35th in the country; increased by about 400 thousand compared to the average monthly income surveyed in 2022 (3,629 million VND).
Although the average income per person/month in Nghe An increased, it was still lower than the average of the North Central and Central Coast regions (4.2638 million VND) and the national average of 4.96 million VND.
The highest average income per person/month in our country is in Binh Duong with nearly 8.3 million VND, the lowest is Dien Bien with nearly 2.2 million VND.
In our country, the group of households with the highest income (the group of 20% of the population with the highest income - group 5) has an average income per person/month of 10.86 million VND, 7.5 times higher than the group of households with the lowest income (the group of 20% of the population with the lowest income - group 1) with an average income of 1.45 million VND/person/month.
In Nghe An, the group of households with the highest income (the group of the richest 20% of the population - group 5) has an average income per person/month of more than 8.8 million VND, an increase of more than 1 million compared to 2022, 7.6 times higher than the group of households with the lowest income (the group of the poorest 20% of the population - group 1), with an average income per person/month of only 1.172 million VND.
In general, according to a survey by the General Statistics Office, in our country, the average income per person/month in 2023 in urban areas reached 6.26 million VND, nearly 1.5 times higher than in rural areas (4.17 million VND).
In 2023, the Southeast region had the highest average monthly income per person (6.52 million VND). The region with the lowest average monthly income per person was the Northern Midlands and Mountains (3.44 million VND). The North Central and Central Coast regions ranked 4/6 regions with an average monthly income of more than 4.26 million VND.
According to the General Statistics Office, the income structure is shifting in an increasingly progressive direction. Income from wages and salaries still accounts for a high proportion of the population's income, increasing from 51.1% in 2018 and remaining above 55% in the years from 2020 to 2023. In contrast, the proportion of income from self-employment in agriculture, forestry and fishery tends to decrease, from 13.3% in 2018 to 10.2% in 2023.
In 2023, the average population per household is 3.6 people, the average number of people of working age per household is 2.1 people.
