On the afternoon of May 31, Hoa Binh General Hospital organized a scientific seminar on PET/CT technology - New opportunities for cancer patients and inaugurated the PET/CT system. This is the first hospital in Hai Duong licensed to deploy PET/CT techniques.
Comrade Do Xuan Tuyen, Permanent Deputy Minister of Health attended the workshop. Also attending were Comrade Nguyen Minh Hung, Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hai Duong province; representatives of a number of units under the Ministry of Health , leaders of the Hai Duong Department of Health; leading experts and doctors in nuclear medicine nationwide.
Speaking at the workshop, Permanent Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts of Hoa Binh General Hospital in applying PET/CT imaging technique in medical examination and treatment. PET/CT is an advanced, modern medical technique that requires large investment in funding and expertise. The fact that Hoa Binh General Hospital proactively applies PET/CT technique in medical examination and treatment shows the development of private healthcare, bringing private healthcare on par with public healthcare.
Deputy Minister Do Xuan Tuyen emphasized that the application of science and technology in the medical field is a major policy, which the Party and the State create favorable conditions for development. The direction of Hoa Binh General Hospital is correct and in line with the general policy and orientation to help people enjoy advanced and modern medical services.
Emphasizing that the disease structure has changed a lot, non-communicable diseases are increasing, Permanent Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen suggested that Hoa Binh General Hospital, in addition to diagnosing with PET/CT, needs to improve treatment expertise by attracting high-quality medical personnel.

At the workshop, leading doctors and experts in nuclear medicine exchanged and discussed to confirm breakthroughs in applying PET/CT imaging techniques in diagnosing and screening for oncological, cardiovascular, and neurological diseases.
PET/CT is an advanced imaging diagnostic method that combines PET and CT techniques. PET records the metabolic activity of cells while CT provides detailed anatomical images. This method allows the detection of abnormal lesions such as cancer, inflammation... at the molecular level, even when the lesions are not yet clearly morphologically manifested.
PET/CT works on the principle that the patient will be injected into the vein with a radioactive substance similar to glucose molecules. Cells with high metabolic activity will strongly absorb the radioactive substance, thereby clearly displaying on the PET image. This data combined with CT images helps doctors locate and quantify lesions with high accuracy. Therefore, PET/CT is a powerful tool to detect, evaluate and monitor many dangerous diseases.
