Prime Minister shares positive signs in trade negotiations with the US

This morning (May 24), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a meeting to listen to reports, evaluate and give opinions on directions, solutions and next steps after the second round of negotiations on the Vietnam-US bilateral reciprocal trade agreement.

The second round of negotiations on the bilateral agreement on reciprocal trade between Vietnam and the US was held from May 19 to May 22 in Washington, USA.

The Head of Government highly appreciated the efforts of relevant ministries, branches, agencies and localities in preparing and conducting negotiations.

According to the Prime Minister , the results of the negotiation rounds so far have shown positive signs. The two sides have had the opportunity to exchange and share information and each other's circumstances. On that basis, the two sides understand and sympathize with each other more in the current context, giving positive directions for the next negotiation rounds, aiming for appropriate and balanced results for both sides. The Prime Minister also welcomed the positivity of the US side.

In addition, Vietnamese ministries, branches, functional agencies and enterprises have continued to contact and work with the US side in many flexible and diverse forms to contribute to promoting the Vietnam - US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in general and promoting negotiations in particular.

Agencies, units, localities and businesses continue to negotiate and promote the purchase and sale of goods in which the US has strengths. Vietnam has a need to contribute to balancing the trade between the two countries as soon as possible, such as Boeing aircraft, LNG gas, some agricultural products...

The Prime Minister stated that based on the achieved results, the actual situation, and Vietnam's ability to respond, on the principle of harmonious interests and shared risks between the two sides, ensuring core interests and promoting the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, it is necessary to have appropriate and effective plans and measures to continue negotiations; and strive to declare the end of negotiations as soon as possible.
