VBF 2023 co-chairs are Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung; Mr. Thomas Jacobs, Country Director of the International Finance Corporation and Mr. Pham Tan Cong, Chairman of the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI).

With the theme "Business community accompanies the Vietnamese Government in implementing green growth goals", the High-level Session of the Vietnam Business Forum 2023 will focus on discussing issues related to green growth, the role and responsibility of businesses for sustainable development and enhancing competitiveness.

VBF will have 2 sessions, session 1 will focus on accompanying Vietnam in the green development period; session 2 will discuss the role and responsibility of enterprises in sustainable development and improving competitiveness.

2022 is a year of complex and unpredictable fluctuations in the world economy and many intertwined challenges, but Vietnam has achieved important and quite comprehensive socio-economic growth results in many fields.

In 2022, the scale of Vietnam's economy will surpass the 400 billion USD mark for the first time with a growth rate of 8.02%, GDP per capita of more than 4,000 USD. Total social investment capital is estimated at 3.22 million billion VND, up 11.5%; of which, disbursed FDI capital reached nearly 22.4 billion USD, the highest level in the past 5 years. Total import-export turnover reached a record 732 billion USD, putting Vietnam in the group of 20 countries with the largest trade scale in the world; continuing to maintain a trade surplus for the 7th consecutive year with a turnover of 11.2 billion USD.

The investment and business environment continues to improve, business development has seen many positive developments, with more than 208,300 businesses entering and re-entering the market, an increase of more than 30% over the same period. The tourism and service sectors have developed vigorously again, especially after the pandemic was controlled, up 19.8%. Many important infrastructure projects, especially transportation and energy, have been accelerated. Along with the positive signals mentioned above, Vietnam's position on a series of rankings has made significant progress, with many international organizations identifying Vietnam as a "bright spot in the gray picture" of the global economy.

The above positive results were achieved thanks to the correct guidelines and policies of the Party and State; the drastic, flexible and timely direction and management of the Government and Prime Minister; the participation of the entire political system together with the support of international friends and especially the companionship of the domestic and foreign business community.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung emphasized: "Economic recovery and development towards green and sustainable growth is currently the top priority and the goal that every country is aiming for. The common goal is to achieve economic prosperity, environmental sustainability and social justice; towards a green, carbon-neutral economy and contribute to the goal of limiting global temperature rise. For Vietnam, green growth is not only an inevitable choice but also an opportunity to become a pioneering country in the region, catching up with the world's development trend".

In that process, the business community is identified as a key factor, playing an important role. This meeting will be an opportunity for the business community to advise the Government on solutions to achieve the goal of developing a green and sustainable economy; have specific commitments and roadmaps, enhance corporate social responsibility in addition to effective business investment; and have the responsibility to actively contribute to the sustainable development of Vietnam.
