During his visit to Vietnam, Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed Ali and his wife visited President Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum and laid a wreath at the Monument to Heroes and Martyrs on Bac Son Street (Ba Dinh, Hanoi ).
General Secretary To Lam and President Luong Cuong received Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed Ali. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired the welcoming ceremony and held talks with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali. National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
On the morning of April 17, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife had breakfast with Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed Ali and his wife, enjoyed coffee and strolled around West Lake, Truc Bach Lake and visited Tran Quoc Pagoda, Hanoi.
At the reception, talks and meetings, the Vietnamese leaders welcomed and highly appreciated the official visit to Vietnam by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, the first visit to Vietnam by a senior Ethiopian leader since the two countries established diplomatic relations (February 23, 1976). The visit is even more special as it takes place in the context of the two countries preparing to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1976 - 2026) and Vietnam is solemnly celebrating the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification. The Vietnamese leaders affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to the friendship and cooperation with African friends, including Ethiopia.
Visiting Vietnam for the first time, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali thanked the Vietnamese leaders and people for their warm and friendly welcome; expressed his admiration for the steadfast struggle for independence and freedom of the Vietnamese people, the remarkable development achievements of Vietnam under the wise leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and wished that Vietnam would share its experience in rapid and sustainable socio-economic development and environmental protection. The Ethiopian Prime Minister believed that Vietnam would successfully organize the P4G Summit, affirming its important position and role in the international arena and demonstrating its capacity and prestige in taking on global responsibilities.
During the visit, the wife of the Prime Minister of Vietnam and the wife of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia visited visually impaired students at Nguyen Dinh Chieu School.
During his stay in Vietnam, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali attended the fourth P4G Summit. At the opening session of the conference, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali delivered a speech, suggesting that countries develop a new approach, linking climate action with specific targets, taking into account vulnerable groups, in which international partners need to comply with their commitments, increase investment, provide finance, technology, promote measures to conserve biodiversity and natural conditions of local people in regions, especially Africa.
At the closing session of the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali jointly conducted the handover ceremony of the role of hosting the fifth P4G Summit. The Ethiopian Prime Minister officially announced the hosting of the P4G Summit in 2027, continuing the commitment of the P4G community in promoting action for green growth, energy transition and inclusive development.
As the host of the 5th P4G Summit, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali thanked the Vietnamese Government for the warm welcome and careful preparation for the Summit; assessing the Summit as a gathering place for like-minded people, a gathering place for leaders with the same determination to promote green growth globally. Ethiopia affirmed its full support for the Hanoi Declaration, honored to assume the role of Chair of the P4G Summit 2027 and committed to continue to promote the legacies that the Summit hosts Vietnam, Colombia, Denmark and the Republic of Korea have built.
