Prime Minister meets female heroes and female scientists

(NLDO) - On the morning of March 8, the Prime Minister met with 138 delegates who are female Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, female Labor Heroes, female generals; 46 female scientists.


On the morning of March 8, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with female heroes of the People's Armed Forces, female heroes of Labor, and female generals; attended the 40th anniversary of the Kovalevskaia Award and presented the Kovalevskaia Award in 2024. The event was held on the occasion of the 1985th anniversary of the Hai Ba Trung uprising, the 115th anniversary of International Women's Day, and the 60th anniversary of the "Three Responsibilities" movement, towards the 50th anniversary of the complete liberation of the South and national reunification.

Speaking at the meeting, President of the Vietnam Women's Union Nguyen Thi Tuyen emphasized that throughout the history of building and defending the country, Vietnamese women have always demonstrated the noble qualities of "Heroic, indomitable, loyal, and courageous", making important contributions to building the country and the brocade of Vietnam. The sacrifices and contributions of grandmothers, mothers, and sisters will forever be remembered, preserved, and passed on so that generations of Vietnamese women can continue to promote their contributions to the cause of building and developing the country.

The meeting is an opportunity to express gratitude to female generals, female heroes of the People's Armed Forces, female heroes of labor, and female scientists; at the same time, express deep gratitude to the Party, State, Government, all levels and sectors, for creating a favorable environment, encouraging and promoting the potential of women in all fields, so that women can always affirm their position and great role in the cause of protecting and developing the country.

According to the President of the Vietnam Women's Union, the Kovalevskaia Prize - named after the outstanding 19th century Russian mathematician - has become a prestigious prize dedicated to female scientists in the field of natural sciences. Over the past 40 years, the Prize has been awarded to 22 groups and 57 outstanding female scientists in the fields of natural sciences in Vietnam.

This year, the Kovalevskaia Award was presented to two individuals, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Minh Tan, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, and Associate Professor Dr. Dang Thi My Dung, Ho Chi Minh City National University, for their outstanding achievements in scientific research and practical application, contributing to the development of the unit and the industry, many research results put into practice, transferring billions of dong worth of technology to businesses in Vietnam.

Speaking at the event, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent the most sincere congratulations to the delegates and all Vietnamese women; expressed his respect, admiration, affection, and pride in the "Heroic, indomitable, loyal, and courageous" tradition of Vietnamese women through the ages.

The Prime Minister affirmed that women always play a very important role in the development of each family, each community, each country, each nation and all of humanity in general. The history of the Vietnamese nation is closely associated with the shining marks of heroic Vietnamese women.

Emphasizing that women have made important contributions to all areas of Vietnamese social life, recently poet Ho Xuan Huong was honored as a World Cultural Celebrity, the Prime Minister suggested that in addition to the Kovalevskaia Award, there should be similar awards to honor women in the fields of economics, culture, society, humanities and young women in the field of science in general.

Naming and honoring outstanding Vietnamese women of all periods and in all fields, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that under the leadership of the Party, the special attention of all levels, sectors, localities and the whole society, Vietnamese women are increasingly developing in all aspects, affirming their role, position and important contributions in all fields.

Vietnam is one of the earliest countries to achieve the Millennium Development Goals on gender equality and women's empowerment. Vietnam's gender equality index in 2024 ranked 72/146 countries. The proportion of leaders and managers in Party and State agencies has been improved in quantity and quality. The proportion of female National Assembly deputies in the 2021-2026 term in Vietnam is high compared to other countries in the Asia-Pacific region, at 30.26%.

In particular, women are a large workforce of the country. 51% of Vietnamese enterprises have women in their ownership structure, much higher than in other countries. In the fields of education - culture - sports - tourism, women play an important role in preserving and maintaining the source of the nation's fine traditional cultural quintessence.

Along with that, Vietnamese women have always been an important force in national defense, security, foreign affairs, preserving and protecting the independent, peaceful, cooperative and developing socialist Vietnam. Vietnam is one of the leading countries in the proportion of women participating in United Nations peacekeeping operations.

The Prime Minister expressed his delight that the female intellectual force is growing stronger and stronger, with many achieving great success both domestically and internationally, and being recognized by the international community. In particular, in the period 2019 - 2024, 601 women were recognized as Professors and Associate Professors, accounting for 21.5% of Professors and Associate Professors nationwide.

Affirming that the Kovalevskaia Award is the first prestigious national award honoring the efforts and contributions of female scientists in the field of natural sciences, the Prime Minister respectfully thanked former Vice President Nguyen Thi Binh, former Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan and individuals who devoted much enthusiasm and intelligence to directing the effective maintenance of the Kovalevskaia Award; at the same time, he warmly commended and congratulated the outstanding and remarkable achievements of the two female scientists who were honored to receive the Kovalevskaia Award in 2024.

On behalf of the Government, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh acknowledged and highly appreciated the great contributions of the female heroes of the armed forces, female heroes of labor, female generals, and female scientists over the past time. The Prime Minister respectfully thanked and highly appreciated the especially important contributions and dedication of all Vietnamese women - those who, every day, every hour, every minute, regardless of difficulties and hardships, always devote themselves wholeheartedly and wholeheartedly to their families, relatives, friends, community, society, and to an increasingly better Vietnam.

The Prime Minister said that 2025 is of special significance, the year of many major commemorative events of the country, the year of "acceleration, breakthrough, and reaching the finish line", contributing to the successful implementation of the 5-year Plan 2021-2025; at the same time, focusing on arranging the organizational apparatus; organizing Party Congresses at all levels towards the 14th National Party Congress; contributing to "creating position, creating force, creating momentum" for the country to enter a new era - the era of striving to develop richly and prosperously for the nation. In particular, striving to achieve the GDP growth target of 8% or more in 2025; creating momentum for double-digit growth in the next period, to achieve the 2 strategic goals of 100 years.

To carry out the above tasks, it is necessary to "respect time, intelligence and decisiveness"; especially there must be synchronous, drastic and effective participation of the entire political system, business community and people nationwide, including the particularly important role of women. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that the Vietnam Women's Union continue to promote the representative role of women of all classes in advising on support policies, creating conditions for Vietnamese women in general, and female scientists in particular, to continue to promote their talents, intelligence and dedication to the progress and development of women.

The Prime Minister requested that all levels, sectors and localities prioritize resources, have policies and specific mechanisms to train, foster and develop high-quality female human resources in all fields, especially paying special attention to young female scientists, ethnic minorities, women working in disadvantaged areas, mountainous areas and islands in the country's digital age.

All levels, sectors and localities must create all favorable conditions for women to access and apply industrial science, innovation, digital transformation in production and life, especially in scientific research and creative startups; contribute to the effective implementation of Resolution 57 of the Politburo; proactively and actively support women in international integration; connect and mobilize women to preserve and promote national cultural identity; promptly discover, commend and honor talented women in all fields, spreading the good example of Vietnamese women widely in society.

The Prime Minister hopes that in the coming years, the Vietnam Kovalevskaia Award Committee will continue to select and honor outstanding female collectives and individuals with influential and outstanding achievements in scientific research activities, especially in the fields of education, healthcare, digital technology, automation, biotechnology, energy and environment, etc.

Prime Minister Pham Minh believes that Vietnamese women today will continue to uphold and promote the fine traditions and unique cultural values ​​of Vietnam, the resources of Vietnamese women, and combine them with the strength of the times to build and defend the Fatherland.
