Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh meets with UN Secretary-General and Australian Prime Minister

According to a special correspondent of the Vietnam News Agency, within the framework of his working trip to attend the G20 Summit and bilateral activities in South Africa, on the afternoon of November 22 (local time), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

* Meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his support for the Secretary-General's viewpoints and approaches at this year's G20 discussions, especially on reforming the international financial system, green transformation and narrowing the development gap; and highly appreciated the Secretary-General's efforts in ensuring that the G20 is aligned with the UN's goals and supporting developing countries in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Secretary-General Antonio Guterres once again thanked and congratulated Vietnam for successfully hosting the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention on Cybercrime, affirming that Vietnam's invitation to attend the G20 Summit for two consecutive years is a strong affirmation and recognition and appreciation by partners for Vietnam's prestige, position and increasingly important role in common world issues.

Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed his deep sympathy with the Government and people of Vietnam for the damage caused by storms and floods and said relevant UN agencies will support Vietnam in overcoming the consequences of the floods.

The Secretary-General affirmed that the UN will continue to accompany Vietnam in the new development stage, especially in supporting climate change response and implementing sustainable development goals.

* At the meeting with the Australian Prime Minister, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his sincere thanks to the Australian Government for providing humanitarian assistance of more than 3 million AUD (more than 1.93 million USD) to help Vietnam overcome the consequences of storms and floods. The Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Australia, and suggested that the two sides continue to effectively implement the Action Program to implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, periodically organize dialogue and consultation mechanisms, contributing to continuously increasing understanding and strengthening political trust.

The Prime Minister also asked the Australian side to actively discuss measures to further increase the two-way trade turnover, soon reaching the target of 20 billion USD, especially opening up and facilitating the export of goods from both sides to each other's markets. The Prime Minister reaffirmed the desire to promote the pillars of cooperation in science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, AI training, green technology as well as cultural activities and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

For his part, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese affirmed his special affection for Vietnam and expressed his condolences for the great losses caused by natural disasters and floods in the central provinces recently; believing that Vietnam is a resilient country and that the Vietnamese people will certainly soon overcome and overcome the consequences of natural disasters.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said that Australia also has to experience devastating natural disasters such as cyclones, etc. Because of this, the two countries need to further strengthen cooperation in combating climate change and hope that Vietnam will continue to join hands to contribute to international efforts to respond to climate change.

Sharing Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's vision on science and technology development, innovation and digital transformation, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese hopes that the two sides will have a breakthrough in cooperation in this field, especially in human resource training and biomedical technology development...

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese affirmed that Australia always prioritizes relations with Vietnam, considering Vietnam a leading partner in Southeast Asia; emphasizing that upgrading relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership opens a new chapter in bilateral relations; committing that Australia will always prioritize official development assistance (ODA) for Vietnam, especially in areas of Vietnam's need such as climate change adaptation, energy transition, digital transformation, circular economy, etc.

Expressing his impression of Vietnam's increasingly important position and role, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese affirmed his support for Vietnam to successfully assume the rotating chairmanship of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) in 2026 and support Vietnam to successfully organize the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Year 2027.
